St.B's wins 67-61. Watkins finished with 14 pts, 13 rebs, a couple steals, and probably at least one assist.
Final Summary on Watkins:
- His team does not (at least not tonight) get him involved on the offense - which is dominated by the super-talented guards in Briscoe, Ennis, and Johnson. Most of his 14 pts came from offensive putbacks, free throws and probably two baskets came a drive and rare dish from a guard. I would say that maybe this is the limit of his game, but I know that is not true - he's supposedly a good shooter, who can step out and hit the 3. He did have a 15' baseline jumper nullified on an offensive foul by Briscoe.
- Watkins pursues the ball pretty relentlessly on the offensive glass. He bounces well, but isn't real bouncy if that makes any sense. What I mean is I didn't detect a big vertical.
- He is a big kid. The announcers used the term "college-ready body" and I can say it fits. At 6'-8" + his build, he was the biggest guy on the floor. He didn't however play that physical or get position on his man consistently despite being bigger. His rebounds therefore were a matter of continuously bouncing and tipping. He got the ball knocked away from him on rebounds probably a handful of times and still managed 13 rebs, so that tells you how many balls he got his hands on.
- He runs the floor VERY well, even in an up-tempo game. Of all the players, I would say he hustled as much if not more than anybody else.
