I like the sounds of this Watkins kid. Sounds like the big boys are starting to sniff around. Glad we have got our offer in with the likes of Harvard, St. Bonaventure, etc.

From what I've read, this was his first year of AAU. Just goes to show how important AAU is for recruiting and rankings. Especially for these Canadian kids... Or it explains why they come to a prep school in the states.

Is it just me or does it seem that Fred has offered some kids pretty early that later became hot commodities?

That does seem to be happening quite a bit, we have been in the round of first offers for quite a few that have now ended up in the Top 100 or definitely appear like they will be based upon their recent performance.

I've put up a new update to the Recruit Lists w/ changes in the 2013/2014 classes.

It really does seems like they are spreading out offers to a lot of kids who go on to be ranked. I think a good season where we really highlight our guard play will go a long way in helping to land a few of them. The fact we play a multiple guard set probably doesn't hurt our chances either.

This staff does seem to do their homework. With some of these kids, it may not matter - but, how can you blame any kid for going to UK, Duke, UNC, KU, UConn, Syracuse, etc (emotions aside, except for "'ole Roy"...)? But, in the event that it does work, you have to point to the early notice, and loyal recruitment. IE: Niang recruitment.

Hmmmmm.

Georges appears to have curtailed some of his rah rahing for NWC of late (asking folks at ISU to twitter NWC.)
I am going to assume that Georges knows something.

Just my opinion of course.

It's not just you, Judge Smails.
We're either outworking or are just plain smarter than the other guys, which is nice.

Another instance of being on a recruit early, 2014 PG Tyus Jones has Iowa State as one of his initial offers along with Duke who is recruiting him hard.

Jones is a likely top 5 PG and likely top 10 in the nation.

Jones, McCullough likely top 10, with Randolph, Chambers, and Vaughn all possibly top 50, if not top 25 in the 2014 class. If we can stick with any single one of these guys, will be fantastic. 2014 is a long ways a way though. Go Fred, Go.

Heard This Blog | Your Atlantic 10 Basketball Connection

For those not following @ISUrecruitlists or @heardthisblog on twitter, here is a great story on Watkins. Sounds like a great kid. Officially want bad.

Could be combo wing/ forward based on reported skills and size.

He mentions that both academics and winning are really important to him. That means we won't be high on his radar til after this year.
