Hopefully Doc can really become a force for us on the JUCO scene because our HS recruiting relies too heavily on Mann in Michigan currently.

Losing TJ was a big loss for the HS scene and Matt A brings virtually nothing to the table from what I can tell, which admittedly is based on only what I read online.

I agree that Matt A has been disappointing but that will all change if they can land Vaughn.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't MA the lead guy on Niang? Either way, I wouldn't say he is worth "virtually nothing"... Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to stick around for 4 years.

And Royce and Kane and still has us in with Vaughn...we lose out on Jaylen Johnson who he wasn't even recruiting and it's all his fault?

Who said that's his fault? The two NY guys he's brought here left after one year, he hasn't brought in anyone so far from Minnesota. He's been good with the transfers but HS has been a different story.

I thought Hoiberg did a lot of the recruiting for Niang. I may be wrong.

Yes, that's why I specified HS recruiting. Transfers and HS recruits are totally different. Landing a transfer that has basically reached out to you because you're known as Transfer U after two weeks of recruiting is quite different than kissing the behinds of HS players durring a 2-3 year courtship. The former is much more like the NBA and the latter is more of a good old boys network where having relationships with HS and AAU coaches means a ton. They're two different skill sets.

I have no idea how much of a role he played in landing Kane and Nader but my guess is Fred would haves signed them regardless.

RW may have been a different story however.

so its no big deal when a lot of TJ's guys signed with marquette, but its a problem when Matt A can't get NYC kids away from the entire big east (or whatever conf those schools are in now)?

Even if he is only good at bringing in transfers (which I disagree with) that still holds value to the staff and had nothing to do with Jaylen Johnson not coming here.

TJ had a pretty good track record with recruiting HS players to Ames and losing him hurt our HS recruiting in the Midwest.

So far Matt A has brought in Sledge and Okoro.

Landing RV would be a big feather in his hat though.

Where are you seeing that I am blaming Matt A for missing on Jaylen?

I guess I just don't understand saying he brings no value to the table when we just lost out on a recruit that he wasn't even after. Even if you're trying to generalize overall recruiting you're still wrong if you don't see his value

I was analyzing our HS recruiting. In that regard he hasn't had a lot of success.

In case you haven't noticed that is only about 30-40% of our recruiting under Fred.

If he's the world's greatest recruiter of transfers then he's worth his weight in gold.

I eventually would like to recruit more HS players but right now we only have one guy on the staff that is plugged into the HS scene and even he was shutout this year.

Our only current commit was a TJ recruit.

With that said if we land Vaughn all will be well

If RV comes to ISU I want MA to wear a hat with a feather on the bench during every game. Like this:

I get what you're saying. I thought you meant he added no value at all

I just want them to recruit players that get us wins. I don't care if they are Juco, High School, Transfers or what have you. Just get good players so we can compete. If we can get to the tourny for a 3rd straight time I would say that is going to be a huge selling point.

If you're gonna have a Vaughn avatar, at least photoshop him into an Iowa State uniform.
