Eh, I get your point but Royce is already ancient history, Georges is here and now (and even more versatile, I might add).

They aren't really comparable. They play so differently. Royce was a better passer than Georges (Georges is pretty good but he has nothing on Royce) and Georges likes to use his jumper to open up the inside. Royce just had to go to work with all the guys in the lane. Royce played with two solid three point shooters, but he had nothing compared to what Niang has had available out on the wings. In a way I think if Royce had played on that 2012-2013 team, they would have been unstoppable.

i just think you're biased against Royce because of the NBA flameout.

Another Cheick update with some video. ISU is listed in his top 7 (assuming the list doesn't change I'd expect an official to ISU, considering the close proximity of NYC to St. John's, PITT and UCONN) but isn't expecting to make his decision until the spring. It appears he is improving his shoot and developing his game.

"Diallo has become reliable with his jump hook, he can now make 12-foot jumpers with pretty good regularity, and his decision making with the ball is much improved. Averaging just under 19 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game while shooting over 63 percent from the field, Diallo has also been highly efficient through all four stops of the EYBL.

Asked to list schools, Diallo listed Pittsburgh, Iowa State, Kansas, St. John's, Syracuse, Kentucky and Connecticut. However, Diallo said he's likely to wait until the spring of 2015 to make his college choice."

I'm not biased against Royce, he's long gone.

They are totally comparable in regard to what my point is.
They are "bigs" who can handle and start offensive sets from the top of the key or at the elbow.

This has Ellenson's interest.

High school recruits take 2 of 3 things:

1. A lot of time (years)

2. A lot of clout. (decades)

3. Very close prior relationship, either proximity or prior relationship.

ISU doesn't have the clout, FH has only been here for 5 years. He only has 3 NCAA tournies to even point to. We are competing against national titles. These are the most prized recruits in the country and there is a lot of time for them to hear from 10 teams with final fours in the past 15 years how their school is better.

Transfers we have clout. FH invented the transfer/free agency game. There's a short period to recruit. We can full court press these guys and, right or wrong, they are less valued compared to top 50 recruits.

I don't need to mention that Iowa hasn't produced much talent since FH has had any success at ISU.

Highly ranked high schoolers are harder to convince, take longer to woo, and aren't necessarily worth as much as the other guys we have gotten.

Not to mention, getting 2nd place for the top SG in the country with only what we have done the past 5 years is extremely, extremely impressive. I will absolutely not listen to any juvenile Ricky Bobby "If you're not first you're last" bulls*it. It shows skill and ability by Matt A and FH. There's literally nothing else they could have done. They were victims of circumstance, not inability.

This thread shows evidence that Fred has quite a bit of clout with some elite players.

I know UK has been mentioned as a front runner for Diallo, but for some reason I picture him in a UConn uniform. Hopefully both are wrong though.

Probably because they have all those thin tall guys already.

Eh, they're both great, but totally different players. Royce will always be a favorite of mine for what he did for our team, and his style of play. Georges, too, but he's still got a lot of space to separate himself with a couple natty's.

Love them both. Like you though, Royce will always be a favorite of mine as well. In fact, he is probably my all-time favorite Cyclone player. The kid truly had that unique jaw-dropping amazing factor, which I can only say I've seen with him and Tinsley. Love George though and he'll definitely go down towards the top of my list as well.

There's something to be said about George getting the absolute max out of his abilities, and Royce always leaving you wondering what he was capable if he tried hard/ was in good shape.

I kinda like to picture Diallo in a Tuxedo t-shirt, you know, something classy but still says, "I'm here to party".

Ellenson update, with the blueboods coming now it may be difficult to get him to Ames. That said Fred's system seems to fit exaclty what he wants in a program. Also in the article he mentions the possibility of playing in with his brother who has an offer to play Basketball and Track at Texas Tech "would be fun" FWIW.
Ellenson wants to utilize his diverse skill set at a program that will let him play different positions.
“I’m looking at a place where I’ll be able to play inside and outside, and put it on the floor and be able to shoot,” he told SNY.tv exclusively this past weekend at the Nike EYBL stop here..“I don’t want to be stuck in a certain position. Playing my way and where they would play me — I don’t want to be stuck in one spot. That’s probably the biggest factor in my decision.”
Ellenson reports that the schools recruiting him the hardest are Duke, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan State, North Carolina, UCLA, and Wisconsin

I can't understand why elite guys like Ellenson or anyone else would still want to play for Roy. He's lost it. Arguably our best player last year was injured against them and with how much talent they had on top of Niang being injured, they should've won. His teams have really underperformed in the past 2-3 years and he is slimy. Duke is the same minus the slimy part since you can't hate Coach K. And if Ellenson wants to run up and down the court and score, I don't get why he has Marquette or Wisconsin on his list. Hopefully he realizes these simple things and figures out how much a guy like Hoiberg can help improve his game.

5 NCAA Titles and unlimited access to Jordan gear can't hurt
