Perhaps when we get to 10,000 posts, we can begin a 'Recruit Lists v3.0' thread. Just a thought.

Nah. It's usually one of the better threads on CF. Just some weird interactions/misunderstandings the last 24 hours.

I think fans are too hung-up/obsessed about the amount of stars a recruit reels in. Granted, if they are a 4 star recruit, generally they will be good at the next level. But there are some busts. Then you have the flip side of the coin, where 3 star or less recruits are gems, and exceed expectations.

Just curious, how many stars was Buddy Hield out of high school?

FYI... The competition.

@jeffborzello: Virginia Tech, Kansas State and Ole Miss have been in to see ESPN 100 forward Romello White over the past two days.

Got it-I missed the PG point.

Here's a little research I did. In the past 4 years and for the coming season, when we have experienced/ expect to experience great success, the following guys played (or are expected to play) at least 15 minutes/game. I have noted the number of stars per Rivals of each coming out of high school or juco, and put them in to categories:

5-star: Royce White

4-star: Georges Niang, Monte Morris, Jameel McKay, Bryce Dejean-Jones, Matt Thomas, Korie Luscious, Chris Allen, Deonte Burton

3-star: Melvin Ejim, Naz Long,

3-star juco: Dustin Hogue, Tyrus McGee

3-star or less, but had proven themselves at other schools prior to coming to Iowa State: Abdel Nader, DeAndre Kane, Will Clyburn, Chris Babb, Scott Christopherson, Hallice Cook.

The only 3-star guys we've recruited directly from high school that played real minutes are Ejim and Long. Additionally, there's not a 4-star guy that didn't contribute at a high level (excluding Custer, who I believe would have ultimately-left too early to tell).

The remainder of our recruits over this period are 3-star or less guys that saw little to no action on the court with names like Sledge, SDW, Railey, Gibson, Okoro, etc.

I know this isn't necessarily a revelation, as there are studies about the need for 4/4+ star guys, but talent is needed to compete at the level we want to compete at. And stars matter. I will add that it is unrealistic to expect a guy like Prohm to come to ISU and be hauling in 4-star guys right off the bat. I believe he ultimately will and that, until then, he will find guys that can play, whether that be from the high school ranks, juco or in the transfer market.

Anthony Booker was a 4* out of HS that never cracked 15 mpg. Bubu was a 0* hit 13.8 mpg too and at times played way more just never had a complete season. Overall I have thought the same thing. Fred may have taken the recruit kids you k own can compete right now or not at all too far but it also is important we don't go the other way and count on everyone being a Melvin ejim. If we do we will be like Iowa. Why I hope if we miss on our first tier (the kids we are after now) we bank for transfers. We need to keep our reputation as a transfer destination.

Thank you and I agree this next 2016 class has some great role players and stars in it like Burton/Thomas and hopefully Cooke. I just hope we can land 4 star White and think Malou is 4 star quality myself. Also Jackson needs big 12 polishing but he is considered a 4 star as well. I have said too before in Prohms 3rd recruiting class year (2018) look out he could very well land a 5 star PG. if ISU has the success

I brought this up to just straight ISU needs to land White and Malou, but do agree with your logic just think a team to be successful against KU or OU need at least 2 4 star talented kids and then a combination of 3 star and role players. Sometimes 4/5 star guys are too cocky and thus think of themselves not as a team or don't think they need to improve their game. Where 3 stars are always striving to improve

@TravisHines21: Romello White will not be making his scheduled visit to Iowa State this weekend, per source. Sounds like the tentative plan is for next wknd

@AlexHalsted: Despite planning to be in Ames this weekend, PF Romello White will not be making the official visit. Late change of plans, I'm told.

@TravisHines21: White instead will visit South Carolina this weekend, according to @coreyevans_10

Son of a B....
Well he is still visiting at least but would prefer him to take in CyHawk game to the Toledo for the experience.
Power move by Frank Martin here, doubt this is purely coincidence. He's aware of the atmosphere.

He may never make it here. It's not good when you get bumped for another school

Not sure what everyone's talking about when they say it's gonna take time to recruit top talent. Perfectly happy with the guys we've already signed and who we're in on. If we get just one of the bigs visiting this weekend I'll have no worries for 16'-17' and beyond. Iowa State isn't going anywhere. Hilton, fans, coaching, and the university will be too appealing for players not to want to come here.
