I'm being cautiously optimistic about all those big name Minnesota guys. I feel like we're being pegged as a dark horse on all of them...

It would be quite an accomplishment if we landed one of them. Two would be insane.

These Minnesota recruits, or any of our highly touted recruits, will not be at a disadvantage if they chose to play at Iowa State over other big time programs. That wasn't always the case when we were at the bottom of the B12 and had average coaching for the most part.

Hoiball
Now we have a coach who played in the league for 10 years. Players love playing for coaches who have that experience and know what it's like to play against the best.

Not only did Freddy just play in the league, he was part of the front office and has contacts with every GM in the NBA. That's valuable especially when you're going after guys such as Rashad who is definitely a potential one and done type of talent.

Roster potential
For the guys we're recruiting who want to play for a winning team and a chance to compete in March, ISU's got all the potential in the world. Next year we will have 3 top 100 guys (MM, MT, Georges) in our starting lineup.

Georges is a winner and will be one of the best players in all of college basketball by his senior year. (Soph)

Monte is a play maker at the point and is everything you want at that position. Has all of the intangibles, a great leader, and can straight up ball too. Underrated IMO. (Frosh)

Matt Thomas is labeled the best shooter in the '13 class (besides maybe Frankamp:skeptical:) but is not limited to just that part of his game. Great mid range pull up game and is just an athlete. Very solid passer, good defender, and rebounds well too. (Frosh)

These guys are obviously young and inexperienced, but so are most big time schools who are always shipping guys to the league. Keep in mind I didn't even mention SDW, Clayton, etc.

If you take Rashad Vaughn and Reid Travis and plug them into that rotation Iowa State has just as good of a chance as anyone at a championship run. So what are the negatives of coming to Ames?

Update on two ISU offers from the Hensley Memorial Run-N-Slam.

The No. 25 player in the class of 2015, combo guard Eric Davis, is a natural-born scorer. The Saginaw (Mich.) High prospect is growing physically and has sprouted to almost 6-foot-3. A lean creator off the dribble, Davis has a slippery game with the ball in his hands that allows him to create shot opportunities in the lane or from midrange even though he doesn't overwhelm guys athletically. He can shoot from deep and is a bit more of a natural shooting guard, but he can run the show for stretches. Davis mentioned that he has offers from Oregon, N.C. State, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State and Michigan State. He said Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky have been in touch to say they will evaluate him this summer.

Freshman Josh Jackson of Dorian's Pride is on his way to being an early five-star prospect in the class of 2016. The 6-foot-6 wing is a high-level athlete and finisher who had a monster freshman season at Detroit (Mich.) Consortium. In a Saturday night loss to Team Thad, he was looking confident as a deep jump shooter to go with his slashing ability. The future is bright for Jackson.

Update on Terance Mann. I am thinking ISU could use the "next Wayne Seldon" to compete with future KU's Wayne Seldon. ISU style would seem to fit the style he wants well...

Mann currently holds offers from Florida, Iowa State, Boston College and Rhode Island as well as interest from many others. But he is looking for a team that plays a style that he fits into.
“I’m looking for team that runs a constant motion offense that is always moving, and a team that runs on the fast break well,” he said.
Mann, a combo guard, contributes on both sides of the court with his athleticism and length as well as his ability to shoot off of the dribble.

Unless you consider that you'd be 170 miles closer to EIU - I can't think of any.
