When will you people realize Ejim is an exception to the rule, not a standard. We were fortune to have great undersized rebounders such as Anderson & Ejim, but to expect a team with Niang (Small Vertical), Ejim, 6'4" SDW, 6'4" Thomas & 6'1" Morris/Bubu to out rebound anyone is insane. As another poster pointed out, we have guards and wings with good size to counter some of the rebounding struggles we would have due to smaller bigs this season and many conference games, we still got dominated on offensive boards.
I understand what you're saying about size being important but it is not the only factor in who gets a rebound. If a 6'4" guard has good position on a 7' center, the taller player cannot go over the top of the smaller player to get the ball. Add in the athleticism of most guards and smaller players at the D1 level and height becomes less of a factor to good positioning. I just don't think a difference of 3-4" at this level makes as big of an impact as timing and positioning.

And people act like Ejim came in his freshman year averaging 9+rebounds a game. Even using your logic, you have to realize all these guards will be young which will probably be a disadvantage rebounding as well. Either Hogue, Percy or Armadi have to start for us to compete on the glass next season.

What are the chances that SDW starts at the 2 and Thomas comes off the bench? I know Thomas is a big time recruit and can light it up, but I can see him playing the McGee role next year of coming off the bench. I've said it on here before that I think SDW has an advantage over Morris and Thomas just because he will have had a whole year in the program under his belt

That is my thought as well. But it's way to early to tell. Thomas put up crazy numbers in high school so it's all about who will do the most at the position. I honestly feel between the 2-3, they will both get 20+ minutes a game.

As long as the 7' player doesn't initiate contact with the smaller player, he absolutely can go over the top. "Over the back" is not an actual foul.

Yup. watched a L'ville player one-hand put-back dunk over a shorter Wichita State player on Saturday.

effort, position, a nose for the ball are all critical to being a good rebounder. If both players have those qualities, and one is 4" longer - the longer player is going to get more rebounds. Agree that Ejim and Anderson are exceptions to the rule. There will be more exceptions to the rule in the future, but bigger players always have an advantage (all other things equal).

And yes, the taller skilled players are more rare, and therefore harder to get.

We will have a scary good(potentially) and young back court if Morris, Thomas, and SDW are all ready to start 1-3, especially if Bluford is the 6th man he's rumored to be.

Gibson and Amardi should be good if we need a big, but if we dictate the tempo then the opposing team will often have to take theirs out.

Long, Okoro, and Hogue all have some talent to do damage too.. And obviously we know we have a solid PG in Bubu to rotate in. A lot of unknowns, but it's an endless supply of talent and upside.

Guard is our best position to be young and unknown, because that's Fred's bread and butter getting production from those guys.
