I don't think he's good enough to be a starter on a really good team. Improvement is up to him because I think the talent is there to at least be a decent player.

I sure wish Percy would spend this summer in Ames and work on his game and get stronger. He goes back to Michigan over the summer, right? A summer in Ames and the CCL could make a world of difference in Mr. Gibson.

IMO any potential bigs will have to have the ability to run the floor and shoot. That probably narrows the field considerably. A lot of them just wear out to easy to play up-tempo.
Ability to run the floor, yes. Ability to shoot, not really. Fred's teams are always going to have shooters. Our center doesn't have to be able to shoot from outside. Think of Kelvin Cato, now think of Kelvin Cato on this years team...:wideeyed: Cato couldn't shoot but he was a freak athlete and could run the floor. Our bigs don't have to be shooters.

I remember seeing videos of the CCL with him in it.

Don't forget Miroslav Jaksic '14. I am high on him. Duke is keeping their eye on him. Watch some video on him, he would be perfect for our system.

This guy looks great, can't find a profile on Rivals. What's the scoop?

Also, as of today, do we have 3 scholarships for 2014 (replacing Mel, Bubu and Amardi)?

2014 big man Miroslav Jaksic attracting interest from Michigan, Duke

Scout.com: Bigman Miroslav Jaksic to Reclassify to 2014

Here's a couple of links that explain his situation. He is gaining interest in some big programs such as Duke and Michigan. I'm not sure if it's because he is from Canada and all the reclassifying that he doesn't have an espn or rivals profile, but this is an instance rankings don't matter.

Here is his Scout profile: Scout.com: Miroslav Jaksic Profile

No Rivals or ESPN profile on him

I agree with that, butdo you think Fred would rather have a 6'10" big body that could bang down low and clog up the lane, OR a 6'10" big guy that can draw his defender out because of a good outside shot to open up driving lanes. Three distinctly different styles in 3 years, but spacing has always been a key. And a big guy that can hit the outside shot helps with that more than a banging big man.

I think Fred wants the best available players, but a mobile big man is probably the preference.

I think Percy is already strong. So strong, in fact, that he can't let go of the ball lol.

Seriously though, he's flashed the ability on both ends. Just needs to figure out where he fits and what his role needs to be.

McGee and Clyburn weren't bad for being Jucos. Amardi and Hogue sound like they have huge potential.

Personally I think if we sign Vaughn in 14 we get a quality big as well. When you look at the possibility of Morris, Thomas, Vaughn and Niang. I think you can sell the idea that he'd be the missing piece of team that could really make some noise.

thank you! this was the exact reason for this thread. i was thinking of how scary those 4 could be with a nice center to add some D and rebounding

To quote Flannery O'Connor, a good (big) man is hard to find.

Norvel Pelle is a once in a decade dream and he didn't make it. Amardi is a one year guy. It's just difficult to find bigs that aren't Aaron Agnew, Clayton Vette, or J-Bone.

Yes we have 3 scholarship for the class of 2014. Clay Custer has already filled 1 of the 3. So we have 2 more to fulfill. If Amardi gets granted a 6th year of eligibility he might also fill another 1 of the 3, which would leave us with 1 remaining scholarship to fulfill for the 2014 class.

Here are Rosters and Depth charts IMO for the next two seasons:

Yeah, just can't seem to land any. Which is why I feel Fred will always go the transfer or Juco route for big men.

Pay attention dude ISU under Fred is targeting good athletic guards who can shoot it. How many teams with 6'10 to 7 ft bigs hurt ISU? None right Isu plays quick up and down and plays the match ups so those bigs sit on the bench. Naing is a great example Freds class is top 25 in the nation he is doing just fine!

This just isn't true. Check the stats for Osby, Withey & Gipson and tell me big guys don't beat us.

To be fair though, our undersized big men matched or nearly matched their production on the other end.

The thing I saw that hurt us the most against good big men was giving up the offensive board, and lack of help defense, not the opposing big per say
