It's hard to say Fred didn't recruit. If he had stayed, we likely would have kept the Greek and Williams, while landing Diallo, Bridges, and Coffeey among others.

It's normal for overturn and decommits with coaching changes, do you not know anything about college basketball?
Rusty, never change. Bridges and Diallo? Not as good as your evaluation of Jantz, but nice work.

Do you think those recruits were shocked Fred left? Sure, Fred recruited in the last year plus, just not well. The rumored NBA aspirations that he wouldn't temper made recruiting tough.

Fred would not have gotten Bridges or Diallo.

He probably would have landed Coffey, but we were never getting Bridges/Diallo.

I actually think of those 3 Diallo was the one we had the best shot with. I know about all the Coffey talk, but I just don't believe that he would have gone to ISU and not Minnesota, Fred or not

I will never fault a coach for trying to win ASAP. Never.

Then assume you are cool with probably a bigger step back next year. Because the elephant in the room was always there, and it just got kicked down the road further.

ISU was a bubble team without the 2 grad transfers this past season, and once Bowie figured out his game late in the year, him transferring finally paid dividends and ISU had a better year than what I expected.

And that's not to say Prohm could have pulled a sit out transfer or 2 last spring, but most certainly the attention was, especially after the Malou situation, to find guys who could come in and play right away even though that meant a turnover of around 50% of your roster at the end of this year

So maybe you went from a bubble this past year and bubble next year doing the sit out transfer option, to a Top 25 this past season and maybe NIT next season since there was still a chasm of no players between seniors and frosh.

And to be fair Prohm at that time did not know he would land one of the best recruits ISU ever had commit, so to your point maybe he had to go all in.

Personally I am fine with it, would rather play frosh/soph's +Jackson and let chips fall where they may. Continue to focus on balancing out the classes more. I think next year probably look at a need to fill 4 open scholarships, maybe 3, a much better situation than 7.

I will be happy when spring comes and ISU fans can start talking about the football recruiting and basketball class they are looking to sign in November, and not scouring the grad transfer list for 3 guys they hope to catch lightning in a bottle with.

Diallo literally said the reason he didn't commit to Iowa State is because Fred couldn't guarantee he would be there next year.

That's the point. He recruited, they just didn't commit because he wasn't staying. Do you struggle with reading comprehension?

As for Jantz, I'm not sure why you keep bringing him up. Because I argued two off-seasons in a row he'd be the starting QB, and was right both times? Maaan thats really something to hold against someone.

There's hope for you yet. Whew, only took you a few to get there ;)

I'm not sure why people think it would great to be a college bball player at UNLV. Do you think anyone in Vegas cares about some kid that plays on a bottom half MWC team?
An athlete at a good power conference team lives a charmed life. Some of the trappings that make Vegas heaven to the typical middle aged loser are plentiful and free for a kid playing bball in a traditional college town at a good school.

I guess that's why there are over 300 D1 basketball schools all across the map and every dang one of them fields a full or nearly full roster each and every year. They each offer something unique to the people that choose that school. UNLV offers an opportunity ISU can't. And ISU offers an opportunity UNLV can't.

I don't know how anyone can possibly be disappointed with the following recruits. News flash: Fred is long gone. Is it the meds? The 2017 recruiting class is not finished yet! Good Lord.

Shayok
Lewis
McNeil
Wigginton
Lard

Special mention Beverly who's already committed if Prohm gives the green light.

I can only repeat what I said in the previous post. Win now, worry about the rest later. I'm not saying neglect the future. There's balance in everything and it's not like he was going to sign seven grad transfers this class even though it's theoretically possible.

Diallo was coming to Ames. Trust me on this

Chris said it on one of his podcasts recently. None of those guys were coming to Ames.

I had a good source saying we would land Vaughn up until about 2 days before he selected UNLV.

Our current staff thought they were going to land Juiston, right up until he went elsewhere.

Diallo was probably the most likely, but since Fred couldn't tell him if he would even be here, it's a moot point.

Bridges and Monk were pipe dreams. We wouldn't have even gotten visits with those two.

Vaughn had a guardian that had a criminal record that landed a job in Vegas. His guardian or handler or whatever you want to call the guy is the reason he ended up at UNLV. It was a dirty deal.

True, UNLV offered what was important to Juiston, which was winning and getting to an NCAA tourney. It also offered Vaughn what was important to him, which was playing in a pro style offense under the offensive wizardry of Dave Rice.

Diallo wound up being a 1 year bench player in the big 12 and some people are really bummed we missed on him. I like Prohm but Selfs a pretty good coach so I can't imagine we would have gotten much more out of Diallo. I think the lesson to be learned is that an unheralded kid like Beverly might wind up being a better catch than a Diallo.
