I read a recent article that UNLV is having issues with their Academic Progress Rate (APR). The coach, I believe this will be his second season, also said he was still evaluating the roster and may use the APR excuse to take away scholarships from less-talented players to pursue current recruits.

Edit: here is the link to the article. This article came out before McCoy's commitment, so there is one scholarship available.

The State of Hockey

  1. Elijah Brown is headed to his third school after playing for Butler and New Mexico, beginning at the former in 2013-14 and then spending the last two seasons in Albuquerque. He was the Lobos' leading scorer both years, averaging 21.7 points per game as a sophomore in 2015-16.

The 6'4" guard has 1,490 points and 187 made three-pointers for his career, topping the 30-point mark seven times. Those are numbers that would be much appreciated by whichever school lands the graduate transfer, a list that currently includes Gonzaga, Iowa State, Northwestern, Oregon and Saint Mary's, per Rothstein (via the Spokesman-Review's Jim Meehan).

With the volume of shooting Brown has had in his career—he averaged more than 14 shots per game at New Mexico—he's going to want to go somewhere that gives him a green light. Few schools have as many available shots as Iowa State, which is losing its top four scorers who were all guards.

    Projected destination: Iowa State

Funny thing is. I am thinking we get the Nebraska player and not get brown. This guy is the reverse. Just my opinion though. Also, Bragg as the second best transfer?? Well at some point we have to not go by high school rankings and go by what they have done in college.

A lot could depend on Shakur's decision. ISU's front court will be pretty full the first year Morrow is eligible if Juiston commits to ISU. The staff will be all in on Morrow this weekend and try to get a commitment either way.
X and ISU are probably the favorites in my opinion, could be the writer is assuming Juiston is going to Ames and that is the deciding factor.

I am becoming more optimistic on ISU's chances with Brown especially after he hit it off with Donovan. First things first he needs to get out of Gonzaga with out a decision and I'd expect a decision next week.

Bragg, was in Self's doghouse from day one and really didn't get a chance to show anything. Young bigs often take a while to develop and don't play to their ranking until their Jr. year.
One of the reason I am very high on Morrow actually, he's already performed early in his career likely will improve even more and be ready to ball with a red shirt year.

That's not true. The prior year they had Ellis and he got decent minutes as a freshman. Bragg was the starting PF to begin the year but he couldn't cut it and after 5 games or so was moved to the bench for the smaller lineup. Then he got in trouble and was in the dog house and only had a couple decent outings after that.

I wonder if Juiston decision affects what Morrow wants to do. In which case, how long is Morrow willing to wait it out? I hope it doesn't put us in a position where we miss out on both of them. If we lose them both, It may help our chances with Race Thompson, but I think it will be hard to beat out the Gophers for him. Darn that little Pitino, he turned them around.

I'm guessing Morrow and Juiston are both confident enough in their abilities to not worry about anyone else. It's not like we have Niang/McKay/etc that are going to be here next year. Playing time is something we should pitch to both

I do think Morrow's decision could be affected by Juiston. Only thing I worry about with Morrow is his injury history.

why would Morrow come here if Juiston will be the senior starter the year he is eligible? Morrow has to sit out right?

Because he's going to get starter minutes both years if he comes here regardless of Juiston IMO

so who does he start over. Juiston, Shayok, Wigginton, Young, or Lewis/Babb?

I won't read until it's moved to the UNLV Obsession Board.
