If UNLV get's a good X and O coach they are going to be a Monster to deal with. Not sure if the new guy can coach. However, they can recruit at UNLV. Weather those kids are getting paid, The bright lights of Vegas, or whatever. Kids still want to go and play in Vegas. They just have not had a good coach since Lon Krueger. They have had excellent recruiters.

Just because a kid chooses DePaul, URI, UNLV, etc. over ISU doesn't mean a kid has a handler. Some posters on this board need to relax and respect a kids college decision. Just because we love ISU doesn't mean it's the best choice for kids we are recruiting. I'll standby my statement, it is more likely family, coaches, friends are helping kids make college choices than handlers.
I never said that. I actually said it's highly unlikely he has handlers. I was saying that family and coaches are not handlers, like you said they were.

ON his visit at UNLV right now, and been liking everything that has been going on with UNLV on Twitter the past 14 hours. A bunch of people are expecting him to committ before he leaves campus. Doesn't UNLV only have 1 more open scholly? Or was that Rhode Island?

I've never watched a KU game thinking- "Wow, that Svi kid is a stud". IMO, his chances of being drafted are about 1%.

They're way higher than that IMO. He's only 19 and 6'7" with a 3 point shot.

The NBA loves potential although I do think he'll come back because he's so young. There's nothing to lose by coming back at his age.

I am betting the majority of users and admins on this site would like the conversations about current and former KU players to stop in this thread. I would be happy to discuss Svi, Ed Manning and Ronnie Chalmers in threads opened on the Big 12 area.

Current players? Are you hearing KU is out of the Juiston race and their scholarship count is irrelevant now?

Per UNLV fans on twitter, they only have 1 spot available. Hoping Hardy takes it.

One open scholarship remaining for UNLV, though more could materialize. Juco PF Shakur Juiston and 2017 PG Amauri Hardy are targets

Svi, is 6'7, only 19 years old, can shoot, pass and can handle the ball. Don't just look at his role at KU as an example of what he can do. The scouts got involved with him because of what they saw him doing on the Ukrainian national team a couple years ago. Last summer, he was basically their point guard and had a triple double against the USA team. I think he also came close to that a couple other times.
This doesn't mean he is a first rounder or anything but if he has a good showing at the combine he can definitely be a draft pick. He still needs to work on his defense and work on improving his strength but this kid could definitely be a bench guy in the NBA.

SJ isn't going to KU now that and Svi ain't getting drafted...it's likely 99% that it's down to ISU and DePaul. And it's not about ISU beating out DePaul and if they can't then this program is awful whoever said that earlier..It's about playing with his BFF or a real team..Some kids choose the BFF.

I bring it up because, I believe that UNLV only has one more open scholarship for 2017. So if he were to commit it would be over for them, unless they pushed somebody out knowing Shakur would commit.

I read a recent article that UNLV is having issues with their Academic Progress Rate (APR). The coach, I believe this will be his second season, also said he was still evaluating the roster and may use the APR excuse to take away scholarships from less-talented players to pursue current recruits.

Edit: here is the link to the article. This article came out before McCoy's commitment, so there is one scholarship available.

Menzies has to decide whether more than two spots will be open, factoring in the effects on the Academic Progress Rate should other players depart UNLV. And he has to decide whether he has better players coming in rather than leaving before persuading anyone to exit.

“We’re looking at a lot of moving pieces because of the APR situation,” Menzies said. “We need to make sure that guys are staying on top of their academics, but at the same time, we’re evaluating how guys are handling their business daily here from the individual workouts to every component of the program. It’s always an evaluation in your first year with new guys.”
