Maybe we should wait until he actually has been on the team for at least one practice before judging him. If he read thhis board, he wouldn't come here. Give the kid a break.

I don't think anybody is busting on him. There have been some pretty good big men who just weren't ready to compete as 17/18 year old kids, especially when adjusting to new rules, a new style of play, and a new culture all at the same time. However I do expect to see him play next season coming off of the bench for 15-20 mpg.

It is really hard for 17 year old big men to make an immediate impact on elite D1 teams, unless they are lottery pick material. GT may play a role on our team next year, but I think his impact comes later in his career. With the talent we have on our roster, he will be challenged every day in practice and that can really help his development.

Yep, this is a long play. Maybe he is a major player next year, but imo it is likely the real payback comes in 2016-18. Couple that with a good combo guard in Cooke who is scheduled to be here for the next four seasons and we added two core program guys to follow up Georges, Naz, Morris, and Thomas. A good off-season.

Don't be hard on this guy. Look how long it took for Jeff Withey/Cole Aldrich to become the NBA caliber player. I am not saying he is going to be stud, but I think he has a potential to be scary good because of his height.

At least he can already hit the long ball is how I look at it.

So we have a Georges and a Georgios - both pronounced "George".

Just wondering if, since he's not yet 18, is there any idea if he might grow taller than 7' 1"? Not that 7' 1" isn't tall enough to be somewhat effective in the middle.

Just saw CW post that Matt A. and CFH will make a summer trip to Greece to get to know him. I see what you did there, coach.

Withey is a good example of a player that took a while to get going, but Aldrich isn't really a good example for the point you're trying to make. Aldrich didn't play much as a freshman on a title team, and then was ridiculously good as a sophomore. You could actually make a pretty good argument that Aldrich's sophomore season was the best individual season at KU in the Self era. If Tsalmpouris has an Aldrich-level sophomore season, he'll be a high lottery pick, and I don't think anyone is expecting that.

Not expecting anything at all out of him his first year. He's got the height but really needs to bulk up. Nice prospect, but definitely a project

Part of my things this whole signing has absolutely nothing to do with Tsalmpouri. I have a sneaky suspicion that this was only about Fred wanting to take his wife to Greece on the universities bill. If so, well played Fred, well played

Turns 18 in the summer.

I will say he will grow to 7'-3 with a 7'-4 wing span and 9'-10 touching towards rim. He will only need a 14 inch vertical to dunk in place.

What other HS 7 footers are coming to the NCAA this year? Are there other potential Joel Embiid's out there? Or did we get the only one?

Not fair to compare this kid to Embiid already. Embiid is a lock for a top 2 pick. Any team pretending they'd take anyone but Wiggins over him is full of ****.

Agree. Embiid was something special. You don't see that kind of talent often.

This kid is going to be a great project that's for sure. If he can gain some muscle and learn how to play in the Big 12, then NBA scouts are going to be all over him.

Fred makes 2.6 million a year. If he wanted to go to Greece, he would just go to Greece.

The kids got major heart. I love watching his hustle up and down the floor in his tapes. He's not like a snail like most 7 footers. I also love seeing him swish threes, its a thing of beauty. Put me in the camp that he's gonna be good, and not as much of a project as some on here are acting. I'll bump this thread and post when he is a complete rock star.
