It wasn’t horrible. My only thing is when you allow hand to hand combat down low then call hand checks 30 feet from the hoop. But overall it was pretty consistent.

Not exactly sure.

That’s the way they called it when I was in HS. Feel free to bounce a posts head off the lane but don’t you dare hand check the point.

No one is saying we were robbed or whatever...some (myself included) thought the refs were letting it get way too physical on BOTH sides and missing or deciding not to call obvious fouls (Heise's dunk attempt for one). Then it has evolved into a discussion of what type of officiating benefits/hurts ISU. That is all...
Even the announcers were commenting on it.

we would have BEGGED for this type of crew with any of TJ's previous teams. They all thrived on "they can't call all the contact" games.

This years team is still adjusting. I think it was a good game to get the transfers accustomed to the physicality and what some bullyball games are gonna look like. I thought Jefferson, Chat & Heise all looked overwhelmed at first, but really stepped into it and thrived later. Jackson needs to figure out how to get those bunnies to go when he's getting hit, but otherwise was comfortable in there too.

FWIW, as an official and a fan I always enjoyed games where it doesn't feel like the refs are a big part of the game and the players are figuring it out on the floor. if that means a little more physical play, especially down low, then so be it. We have the horses to play that game - hell we got Watson & Rock that don't even see the floor and are a serviceable five fouls if we need em.

I agree that we all want consistency. To me, it seemed like the refs cared more about keeping the fouls even between the teams than consistency.

They called Milan twice for blocking on the perimeter when he was moving his feet really well. They called maybe 20% of the blocking fouls that Colorado committed on our contested layups.

Raise the standard. They should be consistently good. It’s their job. Jobs are hard. People are still consistently good at hard jobs every day.
Yeah but that’s never been the case for college basketball officiating.

19 Final Fours between those three guys last night.

They're going to let you play. Absolutely nothing egregious.

TL;DR: Welcome to league play in the Big 12.
I thought Jackson getting hacked by two guys at the basketball looked pretty egregious

let them play is good
My preference for ISU and as a fan is:

Hand on hip or slap on wrist = no call
Shove the hip or knock arm = foul
Call flagrants per the rules for player safety
Call moving screens consistently but closer to rules than not.

As long as they call the game consistently, I'm fine with the officiating. Teams can adjust to the officiating so long as the calls are consistent
Other than I am fine if calls go against Kansas because it’s time for the opposition to Kansas to get calls or calls go against Iowa because who doesn’t like to see a Mad Fran meltdown.
