Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I'm having a hard time figuring out why people are giving props to Hines for writing this...
1- It isn't good for Iowa State
2- He doesn't list any actual sources
3- It's almost 4 months after Fred left

But hey, people will believe anything they read on the internet....

4. Prohm will have to deal with this in some way shape or form.
5. Other coaches are going to use this as negative recruiting.
6. Whether or not we like Pollard, we want him to have a good relationship with current and future donors. Even if half of this is not true, it can't help.

Yeah I bet Hines didn't take that into consideration. This makes it easier for competitors to negative recruit.
I agree, if I were a coach at a school trying to recruit a player that was looking at ISU I would bring this up to say the school does not really care about the program.

You NEVER reveal sources in an article like that. You don't get dirt by blabbing about who or where you got it from. Hell, Fred could have said some of this but offered no "official" comment.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

This isn't about making a team check out of a hotel early, it's about not giving coaches/staff the available resources they want/need. If Hoiberg and the basketball program said these were issues, why not give it to them? We are talking thousands of dollars here, not millions. You want to keep your top performing employees happy (within reason), not nickel and dime them on things that are insignificant in the overall budget.

This Pollard's ego, is anyone really surprised he would be jealous of Fred's success and the attention it got?

This.

1.it isnt good for iowa state for these things to be occurring in the first place. if it causes a change in behavior, it IS good for iowa state
2. Any sources relating to this wouldnt be sources very long if they were named. I mean if any of them are upper level staff, they'd be risking their jobs if their names were on this.
3. Maybe it just took awhile to talk to enough people to feel confident in writing this story.

Again - his job isn't to boost ISU's profile. It's to report news and info that people want to read.

I started distrusting JP when he gave CPR that insane contract extension.

If this becomes a big deal beyond CF, what Hoiberg does will speak volumes. If he says nothing, it probably validates the article. If he says something, will be open to interpretation.

Some of you are ridiculous arguing that not giving the room makes sense. Are you ******* kidding me? If Hoiberg wanted a room with a chocolate fountain and two lions in a cage, you give him what he wants. We were on the verge of National Championship(s).

I have said for years, Pollard is not a D-1 athletic director. He's a clown, he needs to go.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

JP is notoriously cheap (based on his own admission) but I agree that Fred was in the process of leaving for years. I also think you need to treat all coaches fairly but sometimes you need to treat SOME coaches EXTRA fairly. I'd hate for us to throw money around like we're big time champions, but I also know you need to spend money wisely to progress the programs whether it's flying band members to an away game or letting coaches wives come along for free.

Keep JP but make him use more of the pocketbook on programs and people!

Even if Fred was eventually leaving you don't give him more reasons to leave and to chase his own dreams....Bye Jamie.....bye bye.

Hines acknowledges there are two sides of the story but multiple attempts to get Pollard's side failed.

Hines: Over arching message of the story: There was a perception problem within the men's basketball program of the athletic department.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Was their even a discussion on matching the bulls contract? How could you not pay that man what he deserves. The bball program deserves the best treatment and the athletic department should play favorites. This is what happens when your AD is a track guy

What did he deserve? No conference championships. No deep tourney runs... Seems he was payed fairly well? Do think if he could commit to ISU long-term we would be a blue-blood quickly.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I do hate the timing of it though since the season is just a month away. Write this in June or July please.

The timing is fine. Right now our football team is still(!) a mess and can be likely that Rhoads will keep his job due to money and/or due to being Pollard's guy. That season will end for us in December. If there are issues with ISU's AD, you get it corrected before decisions are made for next year's football season. Waiting until June/July will be too late for football.

Hines on KXNO right now.

Was driving yesterday and tried to listen to that crap. It was all Hawk stuff, gave up between Captain Kirk and Kaeding. Give them something to skewer Iowa State with, it will be all they talk about all afternoon.

My guess is Pollard knows even if he is 100% right in this case hypothetically, he has nothing to gain by commenting. The best thing he can do is try to do his job best he can.

(1) Ex-coaches with major riffs with the athletic department don't come back to school the next year for football games.

Fred's rift isn't with ISU as an institution.

Hines: multiple sources expressed their thought of jealousy between Pollard and Hoiberg.

Said he's been working on this for months.
