RIP Gene Hackman

RIP to Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle. Gene Hackman was an absolute icon.

Fun fact: my aunt and uncle have his stove.

15 or so years ago, my aunt wanted to upgrade their stove. She wanted one with multiple ovens and a gas range. New ones were super expensive, so they turned to Craigslist. They corresponded with the seller and agreed to buy it, and when they went to pick it up, the seller they'd been communicating with was Gene Hackman. That's right, Royal Tenenbaum handles his business personally.

Hoosiers, Crimson Tide, Superman, Poseidon Adventure, Behind Enemy Lines, No Way Out, The Replacements, The Firm are movies of his I’ve seen multiple times. Probably my all time favorite actor!

I don't think he made a bad movie. He not only was a good actor, he chose his roles very well. Wondering if if was carbon poisoning. I would normally say it's sad. However, not a bad way to go when you are 93. Just go to sleep and not wake up. He had a good life. Semper Fi Devil. Hackman was a United States Marine

I read somewhere that Hackman hated doing Hoosiers, refused to watch the daily showing of the scenes they had just shot and was telling Dennis Hopper this will be the last movie they let us do. He refused to even go to the premier of the movie when it was released. He was shocked it became a hit.

Overall just a great actor and he will be missed.

I watched Hoosiers over the past year randomly and holy cow does he make that still hold up.

He retired from acting and almost any spotlight about 20 years ago. I think he wrote some books after that, but he seemed content to just be retired from the business as a whole.
