Interesting stats on CBS Sports today: both the Royals and the Tigers have had two insanely hot stretches. the Royals streaks were a 13-2 run and a 2406 run. The Tigers streaks were 17-4 and 11-2. Outside of those streaks, the Royals are a pitiful 45-61 while Detroit is 56-61. Detroit is simply the better team over the long haul while KC has parlayed being the "hotter" team for a few stretches to keep themselves in the running. It also asks the question "What if the Royals win the second wild card spot in the AL and lose a one-game playoff on the road. Will it truly feel like the playoff drought is broken?" For me, the answer is a pretty deflating "Close, but no."

Do you think you're giving Royals fans (not bandwagon fans like yourself) new info when you say Detroit is the better team?

I'll file most of your post in the "no **** Sherlock" department, but that wild card game needs to become a best-of-three series at least.

Well who though KC would finally clobber Sales? Half game out big series this weekend at the K.

Bandwagon fan? That's hilarious. I grew up 50 miles north of KC and have been a fan since my childhood in the mid seventies. I haven't gotten a chance to see good baseball since my middle school days in the mid eighties so I am just a little pessimistic watching KC teeter along the edge.

You think that means something? Look at Kaufman Stadium the last 20 or so years. Or Kansas during football season.

Only standing room only tickets left for all games this weekend. I hope Ned goes with our most patient lineup tonight. Atmosphere will be electric

I think Kansas City is a real good baseball town. It's not their fault the team has sucked since the George Brett days and NYY and Boston can buy up all the talent. Lets hope for an I70 World Series this year, it would be good for baseball.

Yep. Even if KC takes 2 of 3 from Detroit this weekend, they likely start off the 8 game road trip with a L in the suspended game. I still cannot see a path to the division title since Detroit finishes with 7 home games.

Playing a one game wild card is too stupid. At least the Royals are in the hunt for the #1 WC and might host.

Royals made the playoffs tonight for the first time since they won it all in 85

No division title for the Royals. Thanks for keeping the division seat warm for the Tigers, though.

In all serious, congrats on making the playoffs. You guys get an A's team that basically ruined themselves trying to beat the Tigers in the playoffs with pitching. They have great pitching, but if the Royals can put a few runs on the board it's basically over because the A's have virtually no offense worth speaking of anymore.
