I hate to *****, but could somebody just get an extra base hit, preferably a homer. This game should have been over by the third inning.

Huge series starting today. Really need the bats to wake up, but the pitching has just been amazing.

Waiting for news on Duffy...

Shoulder is structurally fine. Might have just been tightness or fatigue. Will for sure miss one start.

Gotta find a way to win 2 against the Tigers.

Yep, need the bats to help out. As much bad luck as ISU gets, winning 2 games in NYC while not scoring a single earned run is amazingly lucky.

Need to beat Verlander into the dust, and then have Vargas and Shields throw some gems.

Good bye first place. Remember the Brewers fired Ned on September 15th in the middle of a pennant race. Royals can't afford to wait that long.

Ned Yost is a truly awful manager. I've been lucky enough to witness him up close and personal in Milwaukee and KC

Big game today if it doesn't get rained out. Shields better be on.

Is he instructing his players not to get hits?

The organizational philosophy has them swinging at pitches out of the strike zone, and trying to pull balls that should be taken the other way.

Ned was responsible for Seitzer losing his job. The offense has been a disaster ever since. Ned should be fired for this reason alone, but there are so many more reasons he needs to go now...

Its stupid as hell to blame Ned for our ****** hitting. These guys are what they are, its not the manager's fault they don't hit HRs or walk. They have been like that for their entire careers; if you blame anyone for it blame the GM for assembling the team. Its also hilarious to me to see the clueless fans who blame coaches for the team's weaknesses but don't credit the coach for the team's strengths.

Huge, huge, huge game today. Need a big one from Shields.

The Royals have been #4, #5 and #4 in the AL in batting average in the three seasons since Seitzer was fired. Not sure what you mean by "a disaster".

Let me demonstrate.

In 2012, KC was;

Dead last AL in walks.
13th in the AL in HR's.
And 12th in runs scored.

In 2013, KC was:

13th in walks.
Dead last in HR's.
And 11th in runs scored.

In 2014, KC is;

Dead last in walks.
Dead last in HR's.
And 9th in runs scored (well below league average).

Given their lack of patience and power, I guess I should not use the word "disaster" but instead use the word "miracle" in that they are actually scoring as many runs as they are.

Batting average is a poor indicator of offensive success. OBP and SLG are both more important (OPS which measure the two is the best stat) as they are the stats most correlated to runs scored, which is of course the key.

The Royals problem is they don't walk, and they don't hit HRs. So even though they have a good BA, they often have to string 3 singles in a row together or steal a base to score. That is harder to do than walk and hit a homerun, given that even if you hit the ball hard it often ends up right at a defensive player.

Shields came through. Offense frustrating as usual. Get 3 of 4 from Bosox now.

Shields basically vindicated Dayton and his trade last night. That is what we traded for.

I'm all for taking every home game left. I'm going down tomorrow. Crowd needs to will them to wins by doing for KC what they did to Robinson Cano at the HR derby...

In Seitzer's three seasons they were #13, #9 and #12 in walks; #13, #12, #11 in HR's and #13, #5 and #9 in runs scored. Except for the little uptick of runs in 2010, those stats look exactly the same.

5th in the AL in runs is a "little uptick"? Seitzer was just beginning to implement his approach with a younger line-up also. Guys like Hosmer and Moose are basically lost up there at this point, and this is the time that we were expecting them to produce.

My bad. ESPN sorted the stat from least to greatest for some reason. They were actually #10 in the AL in runs in '10.
