I am all for anyone that will help us win sooner than later. By all accounts Lucious will help us do that. I know the next argument - we're tying up all of our scholarships and we're not going to have any to recruit with in 201X. Well, tell me something - when was the last time we didn't have any scholarships to offer? Someone is bound to transfer out because they're not happy with playing time or for some other reason. In other words, a scholarship or two more than likely will open up by then. And the bottom line is we need to win sooner than later. We can cross the issue of scholarship shortages when we get to it (and, as far as I can tell, we've never crossed that bridge because something almost always works out).

If the staff wants him, I want him. While we obviously can't continue to fill the ranks with transfers once we're established, it certainly helps generate the impression among recruits that ISU is a destination to be considered.

The "once he's on the court" is the problem for me. He's going to take up a scholarship for 2 years and will only be able to play one. That's not a very sensible use of your scholarships, if you ask me, but nobody did. Color me skeptical if his talent is worth that much. If he was an all-American or even an all-conference candidate, yes. But he's just an honorable mention-type player.

But like someone else said, if Hoiberg wants him, who am I to argue? I'll support the decision, if/when it happens.

Well here's my response to that. Who are we going to recruit for next season that would play right away? With our guard depth for next season, unless we get a Top 50 recruit, they aren't going to see the floor much if they're a perimeter player. Could we bring in a big that could contribute next season? It's possible, but most freshman bigs, especially the ones who come to ISU, aren't ready to play in the B12 as freshman. Of the three Hoiberg brought in this year only Godfrey is contributing and I don't know if he would be seeing minutes on any other B12 teams.

So is burning the scholarship for a season on Lucious that big of waste? I don't really think so. Then, for the season after you have a player who you know can contribute and play point at the B12 level. I think it's a very good signing if we can get him.

Being from Minnesota I still follow Big 10 basketball pretty closely and I've only heard great things about Lucious. A good point guard, even for one year, is always a huge plus.

Look at it this way...he is going to be better than a juco who might play next year and then may play the year after.

Not only will he help the team next year by providing stiff competition on the practice squad, but he can teach our young guards like Odunsi and Sledge a few things as well to better prepare them for college ball. Granted, it's a double edged sword and he could teach those guys bad "off court" habits as well, but I trust Freddie and his staff. We need talent on this team to compete, once we compete and win, we'll attract top level talent. CFH knows what he's doing!

Right now, we should take all the 'honorable mentions' we can get. IMHO.

Sounds odd, but having transfers that sit out can be a good thing because its less people on the bench that you have to keep 'happy' with playing time...

I don't agree with that. I think Fred is using these transfers to "bridge the gap" and compete until he can get his guys in here, but as long as we have TJO on the staff and Fred to close the deal, I think we can bring impact freshman to Ames.
