I read every message, and I still don't see why this is funny or sad. What's funny or sad about a guy trying to make something of himself?

I would say I felt a range of things and I just wrote my initial impression. And I do think it needs a re-write (along with a lot of linkedin pages). I laughed when I saw that he even had a linkedin page... like WTF what a weird world! This guy is folklore to me! And then I felt sad that he was never a cyclone great as well as sad about the tragic/public nature of his departure. Their was a crime, a trial, etc. Epic stuff. Maybe posting it was a mistake? Who knows? I think a wise man once said that social media will be the death of us.

I guess to me it seemed like you were mocking the guy and more than 20 years later it doesn't seem necessary.

From what I remember Sam ran into trouble at the school he transferred to and a bit in the NBA. Anything that he does to try and make it should probably be commended or at least not mocked.

Like I said before, not long before the robbery he was the player that was the nicest and most accommodating to my brother and sister and I when I was 10. And for that simple thing, I just wish him well.

I haven't looked at the Linked In profile, but I've got some thoughts on those attacking the OP - enough with the political correctness already! Sam Mack is an adult - he put his life out there in the public domain for anybody to see.

If somebody wants to poke fun at squandered opportunities, why should you have a problem with that? If Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was a former ISU athlete, would you be defending him against those who make fun of him? Same thing. Seriously, hop off the high horse...

Thank you. I think sports forum culture makes it difficult for some people to tell the difference between honesty and trolling. There is so much baseless and foul criticism it is easy to kind of lay that attitude over everything they read. But I love this site and I'm not gonna stop posting from the heart.

Seriously....he can say whatever he wants. But I am also allowed to say what I want. And that means expressing my opinion that bashing Sam mack for what he is doing now is a **** move. Get off YOUR high horse.

He put it out there in the public domain with his real name, likeness, and information to make it exactly clear who he is and what he's doing. The OP was calling it sad and pathetic from behind an anonymous screen name....kinda douchey.

I am not bashing Sam Mack. I was wistfully remembering the various dramas of our collective history and I posted about it. The bashing occurred only in the heads of the readers.

Maybe your career has never been either funny or sad but mine has been both many times.

You are the one who thinks he is pathetic. Not me.

Just in case I wasn't the only one who felt like looking at it... it's funny and sad at the same time.

I don't need to be anonymous. If anyone wants to know who I am just contact The Bakken Museum of Electricity and ask, "Who was the Fred Hoiberg of Visitor Service?". It won't take long to get the answer. Also they have a really underrated curatorial department and fantastic educational programs. As well as some of the most astounding grounds and facilities in The Upper Midwest. Much like Sam Mack, I still have love for The Bakken in spite of their past mistakes. (the last sentence is a joke. i apologize if it wasn't funny or you didn't get it.)

You can make fun of yourself all you want but I still think it is an ******* move to do it to someone else. Is it that hard to understand?

No it's not. But if you are gonna swear at me I feel I should get an opportunity to explain myself. I guess we see things differently? So be it. And if I hurt Mr. Mack's feelings I apologize for sure. But in terms of internet commentary I think it was super tame. Not even Deadspin level snark. I will try to tread more lightly in the future.

I'm not anti-Sam Mack and other than opining he's squandered opportunities, haven't come even remotely close to criticizing the man. A simple question for you, jsb: Why should Sam Mack be commended for "trying to make it"?

I'm just railing against "political correctness" and believe you're overly sensitive because "he was nice to you when you were ten". Nice story, but it doesn't erase one of the more embarassing incidents ever suffered by the ISU basketball program, and one that's still laughed about 25 years later! ISU continued to be linked to SM as he was acused of sexual assault at ASU and during his NBA drug travails. We should be absolutely thrilled if he's not listing ISU on his Linked-In profile!!!
