I get the rule and wouldn't mind the suspension if it was handled the same way each time. How were the tOSU football players allowed to participate in the post season and Samuels was not? That's something the NCAA needs to answer.

I understand that some of these players have no money, but either do a majority of the other college students. They have the ability to get loans just like other students. In the end, if they can't afford to be basketball players it is an option. When you commit yourself to that option you need to follow the rules associated with it.

He was obviously a big time offender, I mean $200? That's probably the most any athlete has ever received.

I'm fine with the suspension. Don't want to be suspended? Don't break the rules. If he would've just had it transferred to a parent and then to him from the AAU coach it wouldn't have been traceable at all.

And if they have no money it's their own fault. Pell Grants plus an athletic scholarship should provide for very easy living.

Slippery slope for sure. No food? The Team feeds the players and likely quite well. Pocket change for the big trip? Sure, that is understandable. The thing is, all of these players are schooled on the rules, if the rule was broken then lets not play the the kid is so poor he has no food card. I have no inside knowledge, but I would say this is VERY common - AAU coaches funnel the money, assistant coaches carry the money. So the fact he had to sit out what was his last game is too bad - but I doubt you will see Samuels face on a UNICEF poster any time soon.

So you're not really saying if you don't want to get suspended don't break the rules. More like if you don't want to get suspended find a way to hide it really well.

They get Samuels for receiving $200 but not unibrow from UK for receiving $150,000?

I get that it's against the rules, and I get that the "food money" excuse is pretty weak on its own, but the Ohio State example is relevant.

It does leave them open to the claim that Ohio State football players make the NCAA money, and Samuels doesn't.

This seems like a convergence of dumb decisions coming together: taking the $, getting caught, and the suspension.

How did the NCAA find out about this one case? It has to happen a lot.
Dont college players get meals provided for them and a stipen?
The NCAA is unbelivable. There are players that have taken a lot more and got to play due to their case being reviewed. It was againts the rules but did they even have time to review the case? If that was a Kentucky player he would have been on the court.

It's that simple: If you don't want to get suspended, don't break the rules.

Just bend them.

what did the aau coach get out of this? nothing. Idc about the "rules" NCAA rules are BS and a joke. I'm guessing the AAU coach and Samuel are close and Samuel just needed some cash to get by. what the hell is the big deal about $200 from a friend?? what a joke NCAA worry about the real problems. like one and done players getting thousands of dollars (cough Anthony Davis cough)

This is bull****. He got $200 from a non KSU booster. The NCAA is a corrupt POS organization. Even worse that it was his last game. If this happens at Kentucky or UNC, it's swept under the rug.

and for the record, I hate KSU. I just hate the NCAA more.

KSU held him from competition, he was not suspended by the NCAA. He took money from someone, which is not allowed. It doesn't matter what the person that gave the money gets in return. Don't want to miss a game, don't take money you didn't work for.
