Oh, Nebbie will be very beatable. I just don't see the point.
They aren't coming here. We aren't going there. The Arrowhead thing is just people winging out ideas.

So, for @dualthreat's idea, why should I care about playing Nebraska? There's no real gain in it, there's no real way it's happening, so I can just move right on along.

One of those people just winging the idea is Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star.

This would be about the last ******* choice.

We need a win. As such, we should beg the NCAA to grant a waiver to a ****** FCS team and find one of those to play. That Southern team that Baylor played is free on our off week. Try to get them. If not, sign one up for championship week.

Hopefully it's not a concern to 'need' a win. If ISU's decent they can get at least 6.

Is this a thing that would need to wait to be scheduled only after both teams are officially out of championship game contention?

Last year it wasn't until November for ISU.

I like the idea of playing Nebraska but we’d have to schedule it in a dome, in case in rains.

Minnesota maybe?

Here's a crazy suggestion.

Iowa State and Nebraska should get together and announce a December 1 'contingency' game at Arrowhead. The game would automatically be cancelled if either team qualifies for their respective conference championship game. Gate receipts would be evenly split between both programs (fans who attended both games last night would be refunded).

It would be a relatively inexpensive road trip for both teams and a short travel for their fans. The crowd would be huge.

only way it happens imo is if the teams are already a) bowl eligible but are at 6 to 8 wins (loss is not going to ruin bowl outlook), or b) eliminated from post season play... if you are playing to get into a title game down the stretch, you won’t be able to book the game in time. also, if you are sitting at 9-2, not in a title game, not sure if you want to play that game or not... May want to rest / heal team prep for what will likely be a big bowl game.

If both are eliminated from post season (not likely) 7+ losses, that game gets more interesting.. “bowl game light”. If you need it to get in, you schedule someone else.

Tommy birch tweet makes it seem highly unlikely during bye week

“Pollard says that only 2 schools in the country can play another game. One has already told ISU no. Another said they would consider it if it's Championship Weekend.”

Isn't Drake FCS? They had their game cancelled as well...

18.7.2.2.1 Exception—Football Championship Subdivision Opponent. [FBS] Each year, a Foot-
ball Bowl Subdivision institution may count one victory against a Football Championship Subdivision op-
ponent toward meeting the definition of a “deserving team,” provided the opponent has averaged 90 percent
of the permissible maximum number of grants-in-aid per year in football during a rolling two-year period.
(Adopted: 10/28/97 effective 8/1/98, Revised: 4/28/05, 12/15/06, 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10, 7/30/10)
18.7.2.2.1.1 Waiver. [FBS] The Football Issues Committee may approve a waiver of the 90 percent
requirement to permit a Football Bowl Subdivision institution to count a victory against a Football
Championship Subdivision opponent toward meeting the definition of a “deserving team,” if a unique
or catastrophic situation affects the Football Championship Subdivision institution’s ability to average
90 percent of the permissible maximum number of football grants-in-aid per year during a rolling two-
year period. (Adopted: 8/11/98, Revised: 4/28/05, 12/15/06, 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10, 7/30/10)

Per the NCAA bylaw listed above, playing Drake (a non-scholarship team) wouldn't count toward bowl eligibility... Unless there was a catastrophic event and we were granted a waiver.

So no... But maybe

This seems like he's only considering a "no waiver" situation. If ISU and an FCS school who agreed to play went to the NCAA asking for a waiver, and were told no, that would be a really bad look for the NCAA considering several teams got those waivers due to hurricanes a couple years back.

The catastrophic event relates to a situation where the FCS team can't give out enough scholarships. Has nothing to do with the FBS team.

Would people be so confident of a victory against Nebraska if we were 5-6 and needing the win for a bowl? If we get to 6 wins then no reason for the game. I’m thinking that game ruined our shot at a 10 win season. So now I’m wondering if I’d rather be 9-2 and lose our bowl game or 8-3 and win our bowl game.

This may have possibilities. Drake would love the money. We could use it to improve our bowl selection position. No travel costs for them.

Why not? Drake is FCS, just like South Dakota State. It wouldn't count if it were a second game, but Drake would be our one and only FCS opponent.

In order to count as a win teams need to give out at least 90% of their available scholarships. Drake doesn't give out any scholarships so they don't meet that requirement.
