People in my circles have generally been good about scheduling around football, or just not having those in the fall.
One exception was when I missed the 2016 Baylor game due to being in a wedding party. But it wasn't that big of a deal; the game was at 11 so it finished well before the ceremony. We were all following along; the bride even asked us for an update on the score.
While it wasn't fun missing the game, the wedding was the bigger priority that day, and it's ultimately their decision on when they want to marry.
The counter-argument is that season tickets aren't cheap. People aren't complaining just to complain; they're having to sacrifice one of their top leisure activities, and a relatively expensive one at that.
