Not a shock to me, I figure the new hire was going to be in-house or someone that CMC worked with previously.

Sheelhassle has been an asset to the program. Hoping the increased role helps keep him in Ames.

Based on the success we've seen over the past several years, is that a bad thing? This offensive scheme has shown to work. Just gotta be willing to take a risk at times. Hopefully Scheelhasse will be willing to do that and this offense looks more like it did when it was clicking than it did this year.
No, I think you're right. Despite generally incompetent playcalling in key places and moments, ISU still lost 3-4 games just by poor player execution. Definitely not a broken system.

Yeah it was kinda dumb, but TCU got hosed twice on spots. They scored a TD the first time they handed it off.

Still, the point stands. Just sneak it!
Hell, I thought Duggan scored on 2nd down. The slow-mo, first frame elbow is up ball just short, second frame elbow down, ball across plane. Should have spotted it at the 2 inch line worst case.

Honestly, if you put a headset on a potato you'll probably get better results than we had this year. I trust the players' instincts to choose better plays on the fly than Manning to deliver from the sidelines.

I don't get it. He may be a great coach. However, can't we afford to get a proven guy who has done it before? I mean we are a major program. Go get a guy with a proven offensive scheme. I mean if you think about it, Nate has been learning from Manning. Do we really want the understudy of the guy we just fired?
Look this offensive scheme worked before therefore it will work again. We just need the right person who dives face first into the fire. :)

I wish one of his kids were old enough, as we know how great that works in this state! Since not the case no one was going to excite me. I will still be their Saturdays and plug in Cy when their away. haha.

Major disappointment. Just going to be more of the same and that will be on Campbell. Can’t believe Gordon stays as QB coach.

Sure was hoping CMC had the balls to go outside the program and his pals for once.
Do we know whether CMC is done with reshuffling his staff yet? If not, there might be more change(s).

From the ISU press release:

"Scheelhaase will also continue to coach wide receivers and under his leadership, Joel Gordon will continue to serve as the Cyclones quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator, and Taylor Mouser will continue in his role coaching the ISU tight ends.

Campbell also announced that Jeff Meyers would pursue other coaching opportunities and will not return to the Cyclone staff in 2023. "

So is Kempt going to get a staff position or will he remain a graduate assistant? How many years would someone stay on as a graduate assistant?

I think the choice was using outside hires to overhaul the offensive scheme versus focusing on overhauling the o line. And these moves clearly show a plan to primarily do the latter. I do think the chance to make a big impact hire with an OL coach is higher than OC.

Bottom line is these types of outside hires for a 8th year head coach with the past trajectory of the offense are very challenging. Hopefully Campbell can find some good ones.
