I am tired of this age crap on here. I’m a boomer and I would rather go with someone who has a fresh approach rather than a stale old way.
Because they didn't qb sneak it. They did a three step drop handoff to the running back. This with a Heisman candidate qb who had kept them in it with his legs.tcu try it twice under center at the 1 yard line in over time that didnt work
Lots of people loved Chizik and McDermott too. Let's face it, hiring is always a crapshoot. Even those with in depth knowledge doing the interviewing can get it wrong. Us here with zero insight are just guessing.I think a lot of you will look back and and say, boy was I wrong, what a dumb post I made just like the original TJ, Campbell, and Hoiberg threads. I think it's a solid hire with great potential. Glad a change was made. Now hopefully MC also rethinks his special teams philosophy. Schemes are bad there.
They way they ran that play they may as well have been in shotgun. It developed so slowly too.Because they didn't qb sneak it. They did a three step drop handoff to the running back. This with a Heisman candidate qb who had kept them in it with his legs.
Paal who?Lots of people loved Chizik and McDermott too. Let's face it, hiring is always a crapshoot. Even those with in depth knowledge doing the interviewing can get it wrong. Us here with zero insight are just guessing.
Hopefully Scheelhaase is the next Lincoln Riley and CMC has it figured out.
Looking forward to his entry in the Paul Roads Memorial Mispelling Hall of Fame in the next couple years.
Dumbest post yet in thread, good job.I remember when he played at Illinois.
I googled it and he's only 32. That's not old enough to do much of anything, let alone try to turn around a terrible offense. He should apply again in 5 or 6 years.
Not impressed at all by this hire.
Meaning more changes than players want, or less?I’ll share some more thoughts from current players (not naming them of course) when I get a chance. But, there are mixed emotions though. All happy for him as a person and someone they respect, but a lot of concerns and reservations about how many changes will be seen day to day based on what they’ve seen and experienced.
I don't know, @joefrog said teams don't use that many formations or plays, and that QBs could just call the game from the line instead of relying on coaches.Dumbest post yet in thread, good job.
He didn't say call the plays, he means audible when the defense presents something, you know like in ancient times. If you have a capable qb, a far better system.lol just let the QB call all the plays at the line! This is top tier joefrog.

"call the play, or audible"Why not simply trust your QB to call the play, or audible at the line into something they think would work better?
No. That’s why so many look to the sideline."call the play, or audible"
But on that topic, do many college programs give their QB the freedom to audible at will?
Your Dave Archer said he liked the calls. A QB sneak only works if the d'line is misaligned according to Arch.Because they didn't qb sneak it. They did a three step drop handoff to the running back. This with a Heisman candidate qb who had kept them in it with his legs.
No, it's why I did say today it would be innovative and different. The thing is the time it takes the offensive staff to make a decision and relay it in, the defensive staff has time to do the same. No college defense would be used to adjusting to audibles."call the play, or audible"
But on that topic, do many college programs give their QB the freedom to audible at will?
Collin Klein worked under Courtney Messingham. You made a cute, sarcastic, but terribly shallow observation about your guys.I mean, having worked under Manning he should have some really great ideas about what not to do.

Besides that the days of “audibles” are mostly over. Replaced by the RPO. On any given play I’m guessing our QB has 2-3 options depending on what he reads at the snap. Which is WAY more effective than making a pre-snap audible since most defenses are disguising their coverages pre-snap.There aren't many college teams that give the QB audible freedom. If they do it is usually to something like run up the middle or bubble screen type pass.
It was good enough for Sid Luckman, it's good enough for Iowa State, damnit....I don't know, @joefrog said teams don't use that many formations or plays, and that QBs could just call the game from the line instead of relying on coaches.
I haven't read all the posts but to me Campbell didn't think he could afford to lose Scheelhasse because of his ability to recruit high end talent so he just about had to give Coach S. a chance as the offensive coordinator. It was good enough for Sid Luckman, it's good enough for Iowa State, damnit....
