Seriously... were you going to ask for a cup of drinking water out of the tap or what?

All this secrecy crap is just dumb IMO. You may not agree with me, but that's my opinion.

Have an open scrimmage for the fans. If you want to run it mostly vanilla, then fine, do it. You can hold "secret" scrimmages in the indoor practice facility anytime you want to and not let anyone in.

And don't tell me it's not CPR's job to please the fans, only to win games. That's not true. Without fans, you have nothing.

Practice is for the players and coaches. Games are for the fans. The Fans have no right to be at practice.

We had an open scrimmage. It is called the Spring Game.

So, wait...

You're saying that we should run the scrimmage as open for the fans. I get that. But, to answer the concerns of giving too much of the offense away, you say we should just run the scrimmage vanilla and not show the extra things that we're doing special.

But isn't the purpose of a scrimmage to work on things in a real-game-time pace? The scrimmage isn't intended to be a showcase of the team, that's what the spring game was. The scrimmage is a real speed practice. Editing what we practice just so people can watch it seems....

Well, the word is ridiculous.

CPR knows what he's doing, don't get them in a bunch because a) you can't watch, and b) don't want to join the club that gets to watch.

That's fine. I just don't want to hear Pollard whining and complaining about money then. He's giving up an easy $50,000 or so profit today in concessions alone... not to mention whatever he could get in merchandise sales?

He will charge people to run out and get the tee after a kick-off for easy money, but doesn't take advantage of this opportunity. Heck, he could have charged a dollar to get in and told everyone it would go to getting Hilton back in shape from the flood. He would have made a killing. Oh well. We're swimming in cash I guess... so who needs it?

Do you need a tissue to wipe away the tears baby?

They keep it in secrecy so other teams can not see what new plays or what kind of defenses the team will be running. They also do not want stuff that other teams can get a hold of something to give them an advantage.

Then I'll be expecting a LOT of fireworks on offense this fall... if we've got so many interesting wrinkles to hide. It sure wasn't that way last year on offense. We were horrible. Our defense got us to a bowl game... not the offense.

I'm hoping to see a bunch of trick plays, mis-direction, etc that we did not see last year. Otherwise... what in the world were we hiding?

You were expecting too much last year.

3 coordinators in 3 years will do that.

So we can expect a victory in IC this year, correct? I mean... since they had an open scrimmage today that we definately should have had scouts at, right? We have "inside" knowledge on them that they won't have on us.

How stupid of them to give away everything like that? They'll probably suck now!

....

yep, easy. Someone will pay to do it, and it has no negative or positive effect on the team. We're not taking valuable experience away from a place kicker by letting the kid of some rich guy in Ames run out instead of him, we're just letting the kid get a thrill and the rich guy be the best dad in the world.

Charging to run out on the field to get the tee after a kickoff doesn't require CPR to change his time table for implementing the offense, doesn't give away practice tape to opposing teams, and has zero impact on the team.

Having an open practice has an impact. Not only is your proposal going to require the team to change their schedule and how quickly they get game ready, but all that phantom merch and concession money doesn't just appear

People have to show up. And even then, someone's gotta sell them the merch and concessions. Someone's gotta buy the bottles of water and hot dogs and pop that we can't sell due to contamination. Security would have to be hired, and janitorial crews would have to be brought in. Those people get paychecks. And considering that today is another 100+ degree day (heat index), we'd see only a couple hundred people show up. That would be like throwing money down the hole.

But that's ok, ISU is just swimming in money, so we should just open the scrimmage up to everyone to come watch.

One firework. One firework. That's all I'll expect. Boise State lets one reporter with a cell phone camera into a practice before their bowl against Oklahoma, and the outcome of that game is potentially completely different.

I can completely respect the coaches wishes. This is a privilege for people like myself to get to watch these preseason scrimmages. Ill let the coaches speak on their thoughts and I'll keep mine to myself. I will say one thing, the field sure looked nice for getting absolutely pounded by rain. Sorry for getting hopes up on the board and for trying to take advantage of a privilege that most do not get.
