Zabriskie had an unbelievable motor for a HWT and the go-to low single.
I agree on Gannon he hasn't looked great the last couple of weeks but his hand is still getting raised and he's a pretty darn good closer. I like him to AA but he's probably slightly over ranked at #5. 5 may be his ceiling I would say but who knows come March, would really love to see a Top 5 for the kid!

Most of us can tell what NC caliber wrestling looks like for a HWT and Gremmel's performances lately ain't it. Zabriskie was giving up 40-50 lbs to most guys and I never had this feeling with him.
Why is anyone typing NC and Gremmel in the same post? The top 3 HWT are on another planet than GG. He is borderline AA at best and honestly, that's more than I would have ever hoped for out of him.

Definitely not thinking National title for him but he is winning and is a decent to good heavyweight for us. No reason to bag on him.

This isn’t a bad option but we got stomped by Missouri so it wasn’t going to happen there and Oklahoma state has a horse at 165 so that wouldn’t have been a good move either. Wittlake - Carr would’ve been a fan treat though.

In a short season like this, when duals mean even less than usual, I think you MUST wrestle guys at their tourney weight. For preparation, to prevent injury, to create routine, to build up records, etc etc.

Just a couple days ago I got grilled in the OSU thread for saying he would be R12. I hope he picks it up down the home stretch and can beat some of the top 8 guys at the weight.

Ha, wasn’t trying to grill you man! I just think Gremmel is a guy who should AA. I’d never go as far as to guarantee he would AA, but he’ll be seeded top 8, and those guys should AA. But, every year in every bracket, top 8 seeds don’t AA, so we’ll see.

As far as how he’s looked lately, I wasn’t too worried after the OU match. But the SDSU match is concerning. Looks like he’s wrestling to not lose, as opposed to going out and scoring to win.

He might need to lose one of these matches to get back to his early season form.

We need a pissed off Gremmel. A pissed off Gremmel is a good Gremmel. I’ll take that pushing stuff every day off the week over a non aggressive one.

The pushing is alright. Hes dominating the match, but to reach his potential hes got to develop an actual attack. Hes not going to go on a run winning 1-2/2-3 matches at NCAAs.

That said, hes a better than decent 285. Glad hes got an ISU singlet on.

The problem is that the top 3 heavyweights are 3 of the better hwts in a lot time. It will all come down to who he has in his R12 match if he makes it that far. Not trying to disrespect or disregard all he’s accomplished. Hoping we see him on the podium! Love watching him when he brings the fight.

Apologize if it came off as 'bagging' on him. Didn't mean it as such. I'm thrilled that GG has stuck it out and made himself into a good HWT. Someone else above mentioned that he didn't look like a NC caliber HWT and I had a 'no sh*t' moment.

I wonder if the staff is working on his after the whistle antics with him and this is him trying to be coachable? No idea, just trying to figure out what has changed. When he's his normal bully self I'm sure its hard to stop all that momentum at the sound of a whistle, even though he can see he's approaching the edge.
