We have been pretty exceptional in the second half of a number of games this year. After yesterday's game, I was curious about the amount of "runs" that opponenents have had in the second half this year. Here's a breakdown of the biggest runs this year:

UNC-Wilmington - went on a 7 point run against our scrubs (55-93 to 62-93)

TX A&M CC - 4 points, I couldn't even dignify that as a run

Michigan - went on a 9 point run (35-38 to 44-38) which ended up being our largest surrendered

BYU - 4 points, again, hardly a run (77-82 to 81-82) that happened during Kane's ejection

UMKC - 5 points (43-102 to 48-102) I'm sure tickets were burned after this one

Auburn - 6 points (64-99 to 70-99) to end the game

UNI - 7 points twice (42-31 to 49-31 to open up their largest lead) and (51-54 to 58-54)

Iowa - 5 points (64-68 to 69-68) that consisted of a 3 pointer and a couple free throws

George Mason - 5 points (32-44 to 37-44)

Akron - 4 points (only one time did they get consecutive baskets in the 2nd half)

Boise State - 4 points (again, only one time did they get consecutive baskets in 2nd half)

Fred has been amazing at half time adjustments. I've got to credit Doc and the players for being able to get stops as well. I haven't had a game that I've ever felt out of yet this year (UNI was damn close) but I've got a ton of faith in our guys to overcome adversity.

Kool-aid stand is open and the taps are flowing!

I posted this in the gameday thread, but it seems more appropriate here. This team is such a departure from what we are used to as Iowa State fans. For so many years you'd watch the 2nd half of the game and think "Oh god, how are we going to screw this one up?" Now you are able to watch it with a confidence that we will find a way to win.

ISU is so worried about foul trouble (and they should be) that it really affects their play on defense -- they seem to play to survive the first half so they can open it up in the second. Get used to it.

Interesting post, definitely speaks to defensive adjustments.

Any idea re: how many runs we had in the second half? I'm sure that the coaches are making offensive adjustments as well.

I agree. I thought yesterday there were 5 or 6 baskets the first half that Niang and Ejim do not even challenge.

Here's our second half runs (bold) plus point differential (italics):

UNC Wilmington + 3 (oddly our lowest second half differential all year) ; 6 point run

Texas A&M CC + 17 ; we had runs of 11, 7, and 7

Michigan + 6 ; runs of 10 (62-57 to 62-67) and 8 (68-69 to 68-77) or a 20-6 run if you tie them together

BYU +7 ; run of 7 (75-77 to 82-77)

UMKC +24 ; 6 point run (this came on Bluford back-to-back 3's)

Auburn +10 ; we had 6-point runs twice

UNI +13 (never noticed before but the scores from the first and second halves mirrored each other) ; we had 4 significant runs: 10 (33-49 to 43-49) 11 (43-51 to 54-51) 8 (57-59 to 65-59) and 9 (in overtime which ended up being the final differential)

Iowa +10 ; we had a 7 point run and then ended the game on a Hilton-induced 8 point run (82-77 to 82-85)

George Mason +7 ; 9 point run (56-51 to 65-51)

Akron +17 ; runs of 7, 6, and 6

Boise State +11 ; runs of 5 and 7

We have yet to lose a game or a second half! Apologies for bumping my own thread. I added the 2nd half info from the Akron game.

Our frontcourt was amazingly efficient last night.
