I used to love Self, but taunting the other team out of line, even for my own sketchy moral compass, and he should have just acknowledged it rather than lose control over it until he got a T. You should support your players, but not when they behave like that.
He coached like a raving hyena tonight. He was worthy of three technicals.

Here's the thing on Self:

1. We shouldn't applogize for Iowa State. We are Iowa State fans. All fans have double standards. It doesn't amtter if we would like it if our coach woudl do it, doesn't make it right. Kansas fans wouldn't do that.

2. He refuses to take his 3 wins against us and go quietely. He is threatened by Iowa State.

3. He is an *******. Any Iowa State fan that doesn't hate him is probably a secret Iowa fan.

I don't hate him because I understand that he is being payed a lot of money to win basketball games, which he happens to be pretty good at. I think we're seeing the birth of a great rivalry. Can't wait for the next KU game.

We will probably never be rivals with Kansas. They look down upon everyone who isn't UNC/Kentucky/Duke/etc. Iowa State fans see it as a rivalry. Kansas fans see us as another school who wants to knock them off.

They sure as hell acted like they cared about little old Iowa State tonight. We shouldn't sell ourselves short.

It's not going to be a rivalry until we start beating them (officially) more often. So far, all we have is "we'll get you next game". We've been using that one pretty often this season.

True. If we could get to beating them consistently, though, that could change since there aren't many teams in the conference doing that. WInning a championship or two would help as well. We really had a chance to create that ten years ago.

I agree with the original post. I've always been and Self fan and I've never had a problem with KU. No more. I haven't liked Self's statements about the calls in Game 2 (he should have just kept his mouth shut on it), and I thought he looked like a freaking baby tonight (similar to Tom Izzo, who drives me NUTS!). And I do blame the refs for succumbing to his crappy behavior -especially after the last two games).

Even Self admitted in the post-interview he "acted like an idiot". nuff said

admitted is the key word there. if the ref actually told him that mclemore got t'd up just for looking at the bench, he had every right to be psssd. Poor explenation on the refs part. He made his mind up at that point that he was going to get a T. The refs let him go on about it way too long, they should have t'd him up immediately after his initial reaction and that probably would have ended it. He had to be wondering what it was going to take to get a technical called, he got his moneys worth there.

He had 3 assistants out on the floor trying to create a perimeter around him so he couldn't go after the refs at one point. He just completely lost control. Which is usually awesome to see a coach do, but considering it was all over the well-deserved McLemore T? ***** went nuts. Get a grip, Bill.

He might be a tad classless but he wins lots of games and makes way better adjustments then our coach does. I love Hoiberg don't get me wrong but Bill Self is the reason KU won tonight, not the refs. He works the refs and thats why they get so many calls in their favor. Hoiberg sits in a chair and just watches.

Trade talent and let's see who wins. Get real, just because Coach Hoiberg doesn't act like a third grader you say he was out coached??????? Did you miss the adjustments made during the Oklahoma game. Fred has out coached most of his opponents this year including Mr. Self in our first two meetings. Just a lucky bank shot and some help from the refs gave the first two victories to Kansas. Tonight, we didn't have it. Remember what this team looked like in the beginning of the year compared to now. Please don't say things like, "I love Hoiberg" and then shred him. He's one of the smartest coaches I have ever seen, really ahead of the curve for just 3 total years of coaching.

I love it and thats why im not complaining but what do you think and what do you think other fan bases think when Babb does his thing after 3s?

If he did it to the opposing teams bench or in the face of one of their players, it would result in a T. To do it to his team mates is OK.

Beat them five times in a row like we did a dozen years ago and see what they say. The Kansas fans I knew then always told me how much they hated ISU. Just another gym.

I have been around this for many years, and unless we come through and win a national championship, the country completely falls in love with Fred Hoiberg, and we get to be the media's baby like Kansas is currently, everything will continue as is for the foreseeable future. The world doesn't easily change. And Kansas basketball is one of the gifted.

Exactly...Babb doesn't do it in anyone's face.

I don't get the hate for Self during this game. If one of our players had looked at the KU bench after a 3 (apparently thats all he did) and got a T we would be livid, and the small percentage would be ripping Fred a new one for not being more emotional. He didn't do anything to disrespect us so get over it. You don't have to like him but he is a damn good coach.

He didn't just look at the bench, he made some stupid gesture and started high stepping while looking at them. Self's hissy fit reminded me of a 5-yr old, time to grow up Bill.

Let me just first state that I come in peace, not looking to start fights just because you all root for a different college team since you grew up in a different state than I did.

Let's forget the game of basketball for a minute.

Earlier this school year, a guy I went to high school with started his freshman year at college at KU. Back in HS he was a TREMENDOUS athlete. Star football in one of Kansas 6A's powerhouses and was an exceptional long jumper in track. Just two weeks into the school year, he had signed an LOI to walk-on for the KU track team. Later that night however, he was struck by a drunk driver and had to have both of his legs amputated from the knee down.
So much for spending his freshman year in Lawrence, so much for what he had planned, he was coming home to our small Kansas town.

After a week or two passed, and he received a phone call. It was from Bill Self, he had tracked down the kids number. Talked to him, and even invited the family to have dinner at his house with his family. Left him with autographed gear and everything.

I'm
obviously a little biased, but there is several more stories like that, it makes me think Kansas has a class act coach.
Sure, he might of gotten livid in todays game. But don't most coaches?

Just wanted to throw that in there, good luck to the Cyclones in the big dance. I feel the Big 12 as a conference has something to prove this year.

I think (contrary to what people like to believe, including me) the majority of coaches are good people with good hearts. It's hard for most of us to put ourselves in game or even press conference situations because our lives have never hung on winning/losing a game and we have never had the pressure of that level of competition.
