Let me just first state that I come in peace, not looking to start fights just because you all root for a different college team since you grew up in a different state than I did.

Let's forget the game of basketball for a minute.

Earlier this school year, a guy I went to high school with started his freshman year at college at KU. Back in HS he was a TREMENDOUS athlete. Star football in one of Kansas 6A's powerhouses and was an exceptional long jumper in track. Just two weeks into the school year, he had signed an LOI to walk-on for the KU track team. Later that night however, he was struck by a drunk driver and had to have both of his legs amputated from the knee down.
So much for spending his freshman year in Lawrence, so much for what he had planned, he was coming home to our small Kansas town.

After a week or two passed, and he received a phone call. It was from Bill Self, he had tracked down the kids number. Talked to him, and even invited the family to have dinner at his house with his family. Left him with autographed gear and everything.

I'm
obviously a little biased, but there is several more stories like that, it makes me think Kansas has a class act coach.
Sure, he might of gotten livid in todays game. But don't most coaches?

Just wanted to throw that in there, good luck to the Cyclones in the big dance. I feel the Big 12 as a conference has something to prove this year.

You have to admit that if Self acted like he did around the last two ISU games for an entire season, you would be making no excuses for him. ISU fans can think what they want about Self because he's done nothing but be an arrogant *** the last two times ISU played his team.

He looked like Paul Rhoads, kind of nice to see some emotion!

Trade talent and let's see who wins. Get real, just because Coach Hoiberg doesn't act like a third grader you say he was out coached??????? Did you miss the adjustments made during the Oklahoma game. Fred has out coached most of his opponents this year including Mr. Self in our first two meetings. Just a lucky bank shot and some help from the refs gave the first two victories to Kansas. Tonight, we didn't have it. Remember what this team looked like in the beginning of the year compared to now. Please don't say things like, "I love Hoiberg" and then shred him. He's one of the smartest coaches I have ever seen, really ahead of the curve for just 3 total years of coaching.

great Great post. My thoughts exactly. Fred is a really good coach on the way to being an amazingly great coach. Our future is very very bright.

It's baffling how we love Rhoads but hate opposing coaches that are similar.

So complaining about a hold or PI call = complaining about your player blatantly taunting the other team right in front of their bench? Ah, ok. Gotcha....

I remember the Texas game in JTS a couple years ago when LJ made a boneheaded personal foul penalty. CPR blow up on the refs? Nope... He took LJ out of the game for a play to tell him he ****ed up. Next play was a Texas TD.

Like Doc pointed out, there is a difference homie.

Huh? I cant count how many times he has taken after the refs and I love it.

And Fred called a journalist that he didn't personally know who was having heart surgery the next day. Made the papers too.

Both are pretty good ambassadors off the court.

That's touching.

It reminds me of a very similar story in 2004. ISU was playing Kansas and the refs fixed the game by allowing a game changing 3 pointer DURING A DEAD BALL.

It reminds me of another story just a few weeks ago where the refs fixed a game so ISU won the game, yet Kansas was somehow declared the winner.

OK, so the stories really aren't similar but those are the type of quaint stories that make all other Big 12 fans HATE Kansas with a passion. Less to do with Bill Self's personality and much more to do with KU playing the role of Hulk Hogan in a fixed WWF style sports league.

I thought he was one of the best coaches in the country and had my respect until that outburst. That was total bush league. His interview at halftime where he was uncontrollably spasming, shaking, and sweating just reinforced the fact. "It was a STRANGE call". That man will win at all costs and it translates to their cocky players.

Regardless if we win or lose I'm proud of CFH and they way our players carry themselves.

Stay classy KU.

The term "Class" is probably the most over used term on this and other Cyclone boards. Especially after a loss. Frankly, we sound like a bunch of crying babies after these games. If Johnny or Larry or Floyd did what Self did they would be praised as protecting their players and team. In fact, Tim Floyd got thrown out of a game in Kansas City on purpose trying to accomplish the same thing.

Put on your big boy pants and suck it up because you are making the rest of us look like whiners we are accused of being.

Yeah, we tease ourselves with these stories that the calls even out in the end, and they have not. And we give Self credit for perpetuating it. Self is trying to play mob boss -- don't support it AT ALL.
