I played in a high school playoff game in conditions like those. On a normal night we were probably a two TD favorite but we ended up losing 14-7. The other team literally had two busted plays where the QB ran it right up the middle and the LB's and DB's couldn't plant and pivot to make a play. I was playing strong safety and it was almost impossible to change directions. We also scored on a random broken play. The entire game was played between the 35's.
Yeah I’ve played in a couple of those in high school, one was against a team who had two future Hawkeyes on the team and they were completely neutralized due to the field conditions. One guy averaged like 130+ rushing yards a game and he maybe had 30.

It’s easy to be mad about the outcome of the Drake game because you can go look at the box score and cringe at it but that doesn’t do the game justice to what it truly was, which was essentially the longest yard school yard bull **** scene on the mud field.

You know we’re going to go very vanilla and try to just run it down their throats. Now whether or not that will work remains to be seen.

I’m not sold at all on this OL, but I hope they can just manhandle SEMO and we can win easily by not showing too much at all.

If we can’t, we’ll be looking at a 5 or 6 win season IMO. Our OL play will determine everything for this season….. which scares the crap out of me.

I don't care if Campbell has to suit up and play to win.

This not showing all our cards before is meaningless especially for the Iowa game.

Kirk knows Matt......Matt knows Kirk.

And until Matt stops trying to out Kirk-Kirk.......Iowa will win.

We ran a punch you in the mouth Wing T offense that would normally just wear teams down. Not that night, the o-line had no footing and the backs basically had to commit to one direction because there was no cutting.

IMO if people want to complain about the early seasons games it should be CMC getting sucked into Iowa's style of play every single year. Purdue has shown over and over that if you just dink and dunk Iowa the long ball will eventually open up. Instead, we try to their style of ball and it just doesn't work. With that being said, yes we've lost 6 straight but it's pretty incredible how little things have broke our way in those games. Yes, some of it is our own undoing but man we can't catch a bounce against the Hawks.

If this is a game i will not be a happy camper.
I imagine it will be close for a long time and then hopefully we win, something like 31-20 or 27-13. I'd love a 41-10 win, and I think in theory that COULD happen but there are enough ? at the moment and not enough game tape to know for sure.

More than anything, just get the W and be as close to as healthy at the end as at the beginning.

How many of those games have been against an opponent this bad? Don't be shocked if we win by more than you doom & glooms are expecting.
Well 6-5 UNI last year wasn’t that much better and this isn’t exactly an Iowa State team with 20 of 22 starters returning.

I think the returning starter thing was something we over-valued - to a degree. I know that I did.

I would love to be wrong but there's just enough unknown about this team to think the first half is close, at least.

Yeah, I disagree. 6-5 UNI is still much better than this SEMO team... They lost by double digits to Tennessee Tech FFS.

Starting my prep. Saw they named a newcomer the QB last week.

I figured this guy would give the incumbent a battle. Ogbonna was not good last year and DeLaurent led his team to a decisive 31-7 win in the spring game over Ogbonna's team, throwing for a couple of scores and catching a pass for another. the two TD passes were to another newcomer, juco WR Ryan Flournoy, 6-2, 197, who played at Iowa Western last year. Ogbonna completed 50.5 percent of his passes last year and threw nearly as many INTs (8) as TDs (12). Also, SEMO has one of the best RBs in the nation at their level returning in Geno Hess, 5-8, 222, who rushed for over 1000 yards last year.

More important than the score will be just watching the trenches.

If we can’t basically run at will on them…. and stop their run game for the most part…. it could be a long season…. and Iowa will curb stomp us.

We MUST control the trenches against by far the easiest game on our schedule.

Hmm. I remember playing Mack Brown and Texas in Chizik's first year in absolute slop and still losing by 50.
I remember being at the Oklahoma game the next week for homecoming on a nice sunny day, and we somehow did not get blown out lol

Will there even be a line for this game? I haven't seen anything yet.
