How often is a 5 seed the conference tournament champ of the #1 RPI conference and second in regular season of the #1 RPI conference? Not very often.

When you take a step back it's fricking ridiculous that we had the same seed as Minnesota. Not so much that we should be higher, but WTF did they do to earn a 5 seed? They had zero wins vs top 25, they hardly even played anyone in top 25. In computer metrics they're more of a 7 or 8.

Past that- they were ahead of us on the overall seed list.

The knucklehead himself Charles Barkley seemed to be the only guy pointing out that Nevada probably only played a couple opponents that were similar to ISU's caliber all year.

My recollection is that Charles Barkley said that Iowa State was the Best team that Nevada had played this year...and I agree Sir Charles....I think Nevada is a good team but not the top of a Power 5 conference good.....

Davis can pound sand. Some guys live in the past and expect a team to perform like they did years ago...lose as a 2-seed, lose as a 3-seed, and they fixate on that for years to come expecting the same outcome. Look back at every team that routinely makes the dance...they all have been upset as a high seed (latest was Michigan State last year as a 2). Davis picks Nevada because we had lost in the past...lazy journalism...do your frickin' homework.

Charles was the guy who flat out said last year in the NBA finals that he didn't think the Warriors would win because they didn't have a reliable post player. GS stopped hitting all their crazy 3's and eventually they lost. He's a social moron at times, and that's what people associate him with, but the guy knows basketball. I agree with others here. He's not enamored by the blue blood programs, and that makes his insight sometimes more relevant than others.

Yeah, makes sense. He went to Auburn for MBB, so he has no built in affinity for the blue bloods.

i don't care what some talking head says about us. He hasn't watched us all year so his opinion is nothing that bothers me at all.

I will say this though.......did you ever think you would hear 'depth' and 'ISU Mens Basketball' in the same sentence. I remember a couple of those Johnny Orr teams that would go 6 deep, maybe.

I love Barkley.

It's his skepticism of blue bloods that makes it possible for him to see what is actually happening on the floor. Far too many analysts never get past the ranking or seed number ahead of the name.

As much as everyone rips on Barkley for being kind of an airhead, I think he's one of the better commentators out there. His basketball insight is smart and he's unbiased. He's also a hilarious person that makes good jokes at the right time. Before the game one of the other guys was talking about how 3onte was a lot like Barkley, to which Barkley replied with "you mean rich and good looking?" which had me cracking up.
