Could one of the reasons we are higher than Maryland could be that Dez Wells is hurt? Nobody seems to remember that.

Someone should just respond to Seth D and let him know that more games have been played than just ISU vs. Maryland, and maybe that has something to do with it.

I think we are on the same page there neither is ridiculous, but seth whining about it is a little over the top and show his east coast bias. 99 percent of the voters and opinions that matter seem to agree ISU is considerably better almost all have them ahead of MD
I don't think he's showing an east coast bias, just defending his decision to vote Maryland over ISU. I assume someone ragged him for it on his twitter account and he responded. Maryland has lost that game to Virginia since they beat Iowa State and ISU has won all their games since then so many just blindly drop Maryland back down below ISU after their loss. No biggie this time of year.

Then someone will counter that argument that Maryland only lost to Virginia and has been slightly less impressive in the recent eye test because they were missing their best player. It's a never ending cycle.

Hey all, lets try to make this a trollcoach free thread. No one quote or respond to him. Pretty please?

It seemed to work for a while, but then people caved. Don't you know that when you reply to tuco, he wins ... no matter how silly you make him look ... Trolling 101 is to hijack a thread and make it about yourself (an opposing fan). Please put him on your Ignore list.

Well, Iowa State has something Maryland doesn't: a true road win against a power 5 team that also owns a true road win over another power 5 team in the top 25. I'd say that stands out a bit considering how difficult it is to win on the road against power 5 opponents. It also helps that particular power 5 team was receiving votes for the top 25 as well.

Basketball is a completely different monster than football. With the shorter schedule, the AP has every right to be more reactive in football. Basketball, up until February, is more about who looks the part until they get closer to the tournament. I would also say that Iowa State would beat Maryland on a neutral site floor more often than not, especially once Iowa State has all of its contributors available. That is why they are ranked higher, but that could just be the homer in me speaking.
Do we get extra points from Seth for McKay as a starter? Maryland lost their nifty point guard for a month.

Semantics, but he wasn't defending. He was complaining about how 99% of the country doesn't see by the same very limited view.

If the season ended tomorrow you can bet that the committee would see it as very significantly different resume's. YOu realize at the end of the non-con. teams with less than half their non-con games against top150 teams get a penalty assessed. right? That's for good reason. You can gloss over the bottom 60% of teams and focus on your 3 big games to skew your RPI. When you play a crap schedule like MD has with just a sprinking of high tourney teams and no loseable middle of the pack teams the outlier skew the data.

MD has a skewed RPI from 3 games that aren't like the others pulling them. ISU has one game not like the others pulling them down.

If I don't walk past the Phog Allen statue on my way into the door and past the trophy cases on the way to my seat then it's not a home game. If I am not partially deaf from the student section then it's not a home game. If the opponent isn't surrounded by banners and retired jersey of former greats then it's not a home game. It's certainly not a truly neutral court by any means but it's not home. Beyond that it doesn't really matter. It won't make or break KU's tourney resume no matter what they decide to call it.

Anybody who knows basketball understands that iowa state is better than maryland. Isu played like junk because they hadn't jelled yet.

Penalty? For what? ISU fans better pray that's not true because they currently have five games against RPI Top 150 and four against RPI 219+ with three non-con games remaining against RPI #297 Drake, RPI #240 Mississippi Valley State and RPI #77 South Carolina. That puts them at an even 50% of their non-con games against not only RPI 150+ but 219+. Uh, oh.

It is true and we're not in much danger as its Less than 50%. This is the way it is every year for ISU. The penalty is assessed after the non-con so we will have 6 and 6 like most years. Its no coincidence. The schedule that way very consistantly and why we added he South Carolina game. ISU can Seldom affor more than a 7-5 split. But Our top 100 games will not drop out. we are garanteed to have a 6-6 split. I'm not concerned in the slightest.

MD on the other hand will not come close to sniffing 50%. 0 chance. If they are lucky they may be at 33%. Tha is going to hurt a bit.

What was the exact quote from Tinsley when talking about AFH? Just another gym...or something like that?
