I've been saying this for years about Wally and people have continued to bury their heads in the sand. Knott and Klein were too good of a safety blanket.

Yep, those 2 alone covered up some big problems we have had forever.

With the offense playing as good as it is, i really wish we had the 2004 or 2005 D... Dobbins Berryman and crew wrecking ppl. That was fun to watch

This defense this year hasn't been bend don't break. It's nothing like the defenses we have seen before from a coverage/pressure standpoint. I have a feeling a safety was supposed to help Brackens and even though Nigel didn't make the plays, with one exception, he was in great position. He tripped on the last one and UT made a great play on another.

People would complain if you were in prevent and they worked it down for a long FG too. Wally went for it and got beat. The loss sucks but at least we seem to have a life. We got nothing given to us offensively.

This is exactly right. Good post.

As far as defensive philosophy, I don't mind "bend but don't break"--but when we get beat by huge chunk yardage plays for TDs that's frustrating because that is what this defense is designed to stop. We are betting the offense can't march 10+ plays without making a big mistake (turnover, penalty, etc.) to end the drive. Unfortunately, CPR hasn't been able to develop enough D-linemen or O-linemen through our system. The offensive line played pretty well tonight but for the rest of the games we really weren't able to run the ball against anybody with regularity. It's hard to win consistently when you always get whipped in the trenches.

For the record, Strong said he was ready to kneel and play for overtime until they got the return they did. IM SO SICK OF NETTEN NOT KICKING IT INTO THE ENDZONE!
This is a joke... right? The return went to the 28 yard line. That's three yards further than a touchback. You're right, Netten is the reason we lost this game.

Bend and not break my a##. Give up a holding penalty or 2 and tackle the receivers off the line.

Totally agree, if Brackens could have done what Tribune did last year against Texas, even though Tribune's hurt us, make sure he doesnt catch that ball. 15 yards instead of 40 IMO could have been the deciding factor. But I'm not qualified a coach nor player.
