I have loved Iowa State since 1964
I cant hide the fact last night was the WORST basketball performance by Cyclone basketball in memory. I see all this love this morning for “bringing us back “ ???
To WHAT? A hideous performance??
I hope this staff can recruit and fast!!
LOL. Iirc, we lost Javan, X and Hinson preseason and yet this team not only earned a bid but won 2 games. It's a helluva start imo.

I was not a big fan of Robert for a while but the improvement he has made I am looking forward to an offseason of him developing. The guards coming in should be great for the team just need to get a shooter or two in the portal and go out and get another big to go with jaz king and Jones and I think we are set. Hunter and lip should be real nice next year

Remember when someone said that was the worst performance ever...i guess their tv didn't work last....for every game.

I know we had success this year but I honestly don't think we have a single position that is safe on the team other than Hunter. IB and Gabe were solid on D this year and IB was our offense but they take away his left hand and he struggles. They will both still play for sure next year if they come back but not crazy to think we could find others that are as good. We badly need someone else that can create off the dribble.

Id say whats next is:
1 Try to keep Brockington(likely gone but gotta try still)
2 check on AJ Greens status
3 pursue new bigs in the portal
4 look at some SG upgrades

I’d be happy to run it back with the guys we have and the known newcomers. I think we’d be a lot better just with Hunter’s improvement and what Tre King can give us, plus at least one of the freshman will be a contributor.

That being said, I’m sure TJ has a plan to upgrade shooting and the 5 without sacrificing the defensive philosophy.

Regardless, he’s just doing some light remodeling this year, instead of building the entire house.

Don't know for sure at all but I'll assume Brockington and Conditt move on, Gabe and Jaz, maybe Tristan are back. Tre and Jaden transfer somewhere they'll get a better chance at more playing time.

I think Rob has improved as the year has gone on, but his best role is going to continue to be a hustle player who isn't relied on as a starter. He can be a great enforcer off the bench type, 15ish minutes a game, come in, play hard defense, get some boards, etc. Bringing in a 5 with more ball skills would be a great fit for the offense ISU ran this year, and I think it's something we'll see TJ and his staff pursue. Obviously those guys are usually recruited by everyone, so it's no easy task, but I think it would work wonders for the offense.

Just as important, I think you need to find another guard/wing who is comfortable with the ball in their hands generating offense OR one that you can run more sets for, think coming off of screens for open threes, etc. Ideally, you can find someone who can do both, but easier said than done. IMO, a lot of problems on offense this season came from guys not being comfortable with the ball under defensive pressure. Lipsey will help as a backup to Hunter, but I think an experienced player who can create space through garnering defensive attention and being a secondary creator is another player type I expect to be pursued.

Obviously, I think Hunter takes a big jump as a player. He's shot from three much better as of late, and adding an 8-10ft floater would open a lot up for him.

Seeing that ISU is on the list of teams pursuing more than a couple guys already makes me feel like TJ knows there's work to do. I'm excited to see what the portal has in store.

We cycle out the roster as normal and do it all over again, I hope.

There's room to upgrade talent and achieve more. For this season, we did more than we set out to do or even planned for. Happy as can be.
This is a good take. TJ has already proven to get transfer guys to come in, buy in to "his way" and a team defense concept.

My two cents on the guys out there already on the fence. (with the covid option)

- Kunc: please come back, use the covid year. Excellent defender, serviceable rebounder, can hit the three, smooth offensively.
- Brockington: if you don't decide to go pro, yes please. This would be a grand slam for us if he uses a covid year, instant preseason top 25 team with him.
- Conditt: I am so torn, a cyclone through and through. But if we are being honest with ourselves, could we upgrade over him through the portal? Probably.
- Kalscheur: I am also on the fence on this one. Played a couple great games this year, including against Wisconsin. But in 70% plus of games this year he disappeared offensively, at times lacked confidence. Eli King could come in and be better than him now for all we know. Also, the portal optionality - we could probably find an upgrade over him too.

Hope we stay as intact as possible as I love what each guy brings to the team, but a few moving on is almost inevitable. It's always an interesting time of the year as things shift around, and the recruiting to fill the voids kicks in. I definitely expect a very competitive team next year, with the possibility of another tournament run if we add the right pieces this spring.

2 additional shooters.... 3 if IB leaves. All must play defense.

I just want us to be competitive when we get this far. It looks like a once per 6 or 7 year Sweet 16 appearance on average then we look like we've never played basketball before.

Credit the other teams I guess, and losing Niang really hurt in 2014 but besides Virginia we've been blown out twice now by a 7 and 10 seed.
As an 11 seed vs the 10, and against a 7 without our most vital offensive weapon. You can't reference those events while forgetting the context

Amazing that someone can love ISU hoops for 58 years and not watch a game!! Because last night's performance was not about bad effort, bad shots, bone headed plays, etc. We lost because we didn't hit shots and didn't have guys who could finish close to the basket.

Not making shots is part of hoops- some nights you hit 55% and some nights you hit 30%. Last night was the latter. Give Miami credit- they outplayed us at our game.

I think Kunc comes back for sure, maybe Gabe. Conditt and IB leave, maybe another transfer or two.

Love the pieces coming in, and like was said above, we need to retool the offense for Hunter next year. He’s the best player on the team, regardless of who we add.

My dream scenario is we replace IB with AJ Green and get a pick-and-pop 5. Luckily there’s a transfer from Otz’s backyard in Grant Basile from Wagner.

The 3 freshmen + Green, Tre King and Basile would be an A+ off-season.

I’ve posted this several places, but ISU was 20-2 when we made more 3’s than our opponents and 2-11 when we didn’t. If we make shots last night, we win. If Miami shot like they did the first 2 games, we win. It’s really that simple.
