Excellent analysis! Verifies what a Toledo Blade journalist said about Campbell:
"He does not shortcut. He'll recruit above his weight class and the kids will get better under his program. "

We definitely need some one with that Bill Snyderesque skill of squeezing "more juice out of the orange" than anyone else.

And lucky you, we hired a younger version of Paul Rhoads (which might be ok, who knows).

Campbell was the youngest coordinator in FBS and when elevated to Head Coach was the youngest hC in FBS.

He turns 36 years old today. Is it possible that Campbell is like a 5 star prospect as a coach??

For only being 36 years old Campbell has a damn good resume.

So we're doubling down on recruiting Florida?

I think the Mizzou interview was just a negotiating tactic. What smart, up and coming young coach would want to mar his career by trying to lead that politically correct, entitled nightmare of a program?

Yes, I am sure nobody will want to take over a team coming off back to back SEC east titles, that pays well, sends loads of high draft picks to the NFL, and sits in a good location for recruiting.

Can't help but shake my head at the things people post.

That right there is everything we need in a coach.

underachieving football program with half the team threatening to walk out at the slightest offensive infraction by a make-believe hillbilly red pickup full of farm boys

What, exactly, does Campbell have in common with Rhoads when we hired him?

When we hired him? Only personality.

My comment has more to do with Rhoads today vs. Campbell today not Rhoads in Dec. 2008. Granted we do get the OL background vs. defensive background which is a big positive in my opinion.

Campbell could turn out to be a huge home run. For now, it's wait and see - like any new coach - and that's perfectly fine.

Jon miller and fatty Deace think its an awful hire. Shocking. Safe to say it's probably a great hire then right?

You mean the same Jon Miller that got his start by leading the charge to get Tom Davis Ran out of town. The same Jon Miller who wanted KF fired before this season. Ya he is someone I would listen to.

As for Deace, he doesn't like the hire because the guy doesn't have P5 experience. Either did Brian Kelly, and it has worked well for him He has also never build a program, neither did Chizik and he loved that hire. The guy come from a winning program and must be well respected and must have laid out a good plan for Pollard.

Uh...you do realize that a Scott Frost hiring would have been based on hope and hype since he's never been a head coach, right?

Pretty much any head coach would have been hiring based on hope and hype since we weren't going to hire a tried and true P5 coach to probably the most challenging P5 job in America (and pardon me for not being thrilled about Hoke - wasn't excited about doing Charlie Weis part deux)

Disregard, Leftover Rogue overreaction beef from yesterday when I essentially said that PJ Fleck was a doosh, and wanted someone more like Fred who, while not a stick in the mud like Paul, wasn't a doosh. So of course, Rogue took that to mean that I loved paul and wanted someone who would play smoke on the water and grump from his rocking chair about how the kids don't have no respect no more, and were on the twatter alla time and playin' the vidja games.

How is he in any way similar to CPR and Chiz? He's young, he has experience as a HC and winning at that. He's a former OC, not DC. He's a former OL coach. He's exactly what a team in Iowa that plays in the Big12 needs.
He might not be the "sexy" hire, but he's the right hire. He wasn't the HC to revive Toledo, but he was on the staff and kept them winning. Not just any coach can take over a team and keep winning. Saban and Pinkle turned out pretty good for coming from Toledo.

He's stepping into a good situation too. Iowa State showed a lot of potential this year, just has 2nd half collapses. It was a young team that got a lot of expirence and returns a lot. We have a newly upgraded stadium and facilities.

Another point about Deace - I'm pretty sure that delta bravo was banned for being a complete tool as a poster on this site.

KU is a better job than a lot of people realize. Just stuck in a gigantic hole. Easier to win there than KSU/ISU

You lost me right there. They have blown all the expectations for them since they have joined the SEC out of the water. They have been a very good team for over a decade now, and place a ton of guys in the NFL.

The same week of their short lived strike over campus racial issues, they had a better win then ISU has had in the past few years now. Let's be honest. It is pretty obvious the entire "Missouri is now a terrible job" talking point that is getting repeated on here is groupthink from people who hold certain strong political views. I know its been repeated a bunch to you so you believe it now, but the football program did not suffer a fatal blow. The average MU fan or football fan in the state of Missouri has pretty much forgotten about it by now.

There are a lot of really funny people on this site, and nothing like a coaching change gets the drama going. Some get annoyed at rampant speculation, but I for one salute you obsessive cyclone fan.

The success of Campbell will be decided by the staff he puts together. If we get another Coach that hires cronies we are in trouble. If he takes an honest look and gets the best he can as the season winds down, then we are in good shape.

Kudos to Jamie for getting an early start, finding someone he liked and being patient through the process. O course he wanted to talk to Mizzou.
