Just saw another Ubben gem. He is trolling big time on this one..

KU is a better job than a lot of people realize. Just stuck in a gigantic hole. Easier to win there than KSU/ISU

If this is true, than this man is an idiot! Who thinks Kansas is a better school than Iowa state or Kansas state?!

Well they do have a bigger budget and by far the nicest campus of the three. However they are a basketball school and have by far the worst football facilities in the Big 12.

Don't they have a track around their field?

I could see his point given Lawrence's location relative to Ames, but their fanbase has given up on football, game day sucks there, they have a huge history of losing, are in the middle of a long term rebuild, and they are pretty much a basketball only school now. Snyder built something at KSU, and we have better faciilities now. It is definitely not easier to win at KU just because Lawrence is close to the KC area.

Is this the journalist equivalent of going on celebrity rehab? "Notice me, pleeeeeasseeee!"
Check out his bio. "freelance journalist for hire". AKA unemployed. The dude use to work for ESPN and Fox Sports. There's a reason both kicked him to the curb.

You just answered my question in my head... So by you telling me this, his argument is that they have a better budget and location but I see it by the W's and not the money. You can have all the money in the world and still not win (look at Texas)...

I'm encouraged about the future of MC. Not because of his ability but because many posters and pundits think it won't work out. If the opposite was true then it would be a failure. When someone comes in and everyone lauds over it, it never works out.

Oh I remember his ESPN days. He was such a little ***** regarding all things ISU. Our fans pretty much had to beg for any coverage. All this from the same little troll of a man who refused to ever come to Ames.

WRNL offered an all expense paid trip for him to come to Ames and he still didn't come. Some ISU fan must have peed in his cheerios at some point in his life.

Sorry for getting this thread side-tracked. I like Matt. We will have to see how it plays out but I think he has a chance to revamp Iowa state and do something wonderful here!

I remember an awful lot of Iowa fans, including Mr Miller, who thought the Kf hire was horrible. I mean how could you possibly hire a A guy after the great Hayden Fry who was a HC from Maine and a few years as Oline coach in NFL? Oh I recall a ton of people in Iowa city who were livid.

Campbell...Oline coach and successful HC at a smaller school..hmmm. Sound familiar. I'm not saying he's the next KF but to say this is an awful hire is just ridiculous. We got one of the top 3 hottest, youngest HC in the country who most thought would be going to a much bigger gig.

What I really like about MC is his Oline and Dline background and the fact he was an OC himself. Winning in cfball isn't rocket science...it comes down to talent and who wins in the trenches.

Kind of wanted to see Scott Frost (...get interviewed anyway) ...and before people berate me with, crap like, "He's never been a Head Coach!" just remember neither was Paul Rhoades before he came here. Neither was Chizik, neither was Dan McCarney. Jim Walden was a HC at WSU from '78-'86 with only 3 (marginal) winning seasons, before coming here. My point is that nearly every "successful" football coach in (P5) or w/e came from an assistant position. I like the resumes of a lot of these assistants that ultimately will be given a chance and wonderfully succeed. I just feel JP went out and plopped down a couple of million in front of Campbell and said... well... (I have no clue what he said!)

Who has Matt Campbell recruited that was headed elsewhere. What big name player was taken from some other national power and decided to go to Toledo, Ohio??? I can't think of anyone either. Now then, what's going to happen when he walks into some recruits livingroom, and says, "Come play for me at ISU... Don't go to Alabama or Clemson, or Oregon, they're no good." YES! there are asst. coaches out there that can steal recruits from some major football programs! Kind of like TJ Otz is with our basketball program. These people are out there! I just wish Jamie would've put forth a bit more hard work, and thoroughly investigated all (if not more) options! $2.5 mil buys an aweful lot of coach these days. In the grand scheme of things, I just feel we hired a Paul Rhoads / Dan McCarney type of guy all over again.

Assistants do almost ALL of the recruiting. So you can still hate the guy you have never met, but you need to hate him for not hiring assistants he hasn't - or will fail to - hire later. But keep on hating so long as you keep moving the goal posts on why you hate.

Everyone is getting excited on a bunch of hope. (and hype)

That's what keeps the wheels on the bus turning. Not being snarky 'cause it is what it is. We will see record season ticket sales again, more hope equals more money. More money means a better program if invested wisely. Lot on the line for me to believe JP and the other professionals just phoned this one in.

I remember this too. And it didn't get any better when he started 1-10, 3-9. Fans just need to be patient.

I think we got our guy.
Offensive line coach
Former successful HC at mid major
Can recruit well
Knows how to run the ball successfully

So..I know very little about this. But I have an observation. Except for the NFL experience, he sounds a lot like a young Kirk ferentz without a gum habit and a willingness to throw the ball.

You lost me right there. They have blown all the expectations for them since they have joined the SEC out of the water. They have been a very good team for over a decade now, and place a ton of guys in the NFL.

The same week of their short lived strike over campus racial issues, they had a better win then ISU has had in the past few years now. Let's be honest. It is pretty obvious the entire "Missouri is now a terrible job" talking point that is getting repeated on here is groupthink from people who hold certain strong political views. I know its been repeated a bunch to you so you believe it now, but the football program did not suffer a fatal blow. The average MU fan or football fan in the state of Missouri has pretty much forgotten about it by now.

I don't know that the whole situation is over. I don't think it is a big issue but it could have an impact.
