I never noticed the statue until it was pointed in an article I read this morning. Even after that, it took me a while to notice it.

That would be the biggest middle finger ever to George Lucas. I am doubtful they will remake them but as another poster said, they are just going to act like the prequels never even happened and build new storylines.

And the "soft remake" that was VII wasn't somehow that same middle finger?

The prequels novel story lines and new settings... something The Force Awakens lacked...

Plus the competence and craft behind The Force Awakens... something the prequels lacked...

= actually has considerable potential... they're both deeply flawed but in opposite ways

Much better than them trying to remake A New Hope and Empire in everything but name.

I get it, people - the prequels sucked - but we seem to misunderstand the reasons why.

Don't fix the wrong problem - the iso sets with Georges last year weren't the problem. :p

Since you seem fixated on turning everything back to how much you think the Force Awakens sucked, I have the perfect thread for you:http://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/thr...i-thread-spoilers.212233/page-43#post-5198105

Why don't you try trolling in that thread for a while and see if anyone takes the bait.

George has an entire galaxy to work with; puts Tatooine in all but one of his movies.

And Jango Fett. Novel idea.
Jango Fett was his attempt to correct the wrong of taking a very promising character (Boba Fett) and throwing him away before you really gave him an opportunity to do much of anything interesting.

I pretend the prequals don't exist. Apparently they are pretending the prequels didn't happen either if Jyn's father is responsible for the construction of the Death Star when the prequels told us those stupid bug aliens were the ones responsible for it. I'm sure they will have an explanation for it since those movies are canon, but I would be perfectly happy if they just said **** it and retconned it.

There were prequels? /mentalblock

I saw recently that Boba Fett was in one of Lucas's newer edits of New Hope, I think in the scene with Jabba.
That told me I was more of a purist than I thought.

scene: over bottomless pit at the heart of Cloud City

"But The Force Awakens was good!"

"Search your feelings. You know it to be true."

"But... *sniffles* NOOOOOOOOOO!!! NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!"

: jimlad :

I just think you should remake bad movies that had conceptual potential. If there's a time where it is appropriate, that is it. Episodes I, II, and III definitely fall into that category.

I will admit, I am not following this post or the related conversation, but I will be damned if I let anyone speak badly of Cloud City, and I sense it is being used in a negative context here.

I could be way off base. I dunno. Don't mess with Cloud City. All I'm saying.

I've been listening to audio books of the Timothy Zahn Heir to the Empire trilogy on my drive, which I think is probably the best high quality story we have already that ties directly into the original trilogy without any huge time gap (5 years later).

Just listening to that with the visuals of the Rogue One trailers has me pretty amped that this could be even better than TFA. Even though Rogue One will be more connected to the original trilogy in some ways, it's almost impossible for it to plot recycle like many accuse TFA of.

Maybe you know this all ready, but Timothy Zahn is writing a book called Thrawn to retcon the character and bring him in to current canon. I guess they are all ready doing that by including him in Rebels too.

Easily the best character from any of the books, comics, video games, etc... I haven't read any new Star Wars novels in quite a while but I'd check it out.

I've always wondered what might have happened if they had done those 3 books with recast actors as opposed to the prequels. There are some questionable elements, but nothing as bad as the worst plot elements of the prequels. For example the force dampening Ysalamiri is a little iffy but I'd take it over the whole midi-chlorians science lesson. Lando's nomadic city and sun blocking shield ships would have been an incredible setting in a feature film.

I've had a look at lots of the ships, droids, costumes and characters for Rogue One for quite a while from my work and I think they're completely nailing it aesthetically, maybe even more than TFA. Working in toy design it's a dream come true because there is existing tooling that suddenly is usable again in a new property due to the accuracy they're recreating things with, was true to some extent with TFA but way more with this.

I read Bloodlines from the new canon books. The plot isn't spectacular, but it introduces some interesting facts about what happened prior to TFA. I'll put it in spoilers in case anyone plans to read it.

It takes place about 6-7 years prior to TFA.

Ben Solo has not turned into Kylo Ren yet. He and Luke are not in the book as they are away searching for Jedi history. This is interesting because I thought from the movie that when he turned, then they put Rey into hiding. With this timeline and her age, she already would have to be in hiding.

Leia is a senator of the New Republic. There are two political parties that cannot work together, which will lead to the eventual split seen in the movie.

The First Order has not risen yet. It is being built behind the scenes of the collapsing New Republic. Senators are involved. There are sleeper military cells training for what is about to happen.

Han and Leia are still together, but half the year Han is away running a pilot racing company. It doesn't reveal if he's lost the Falcon yet.

Chewie is home on Kashyyyk living with his family.

Chinese trailer for Rogue One is GREAT!

Space battles look amazing, and that scene with the AT-AT stomping across the beach...****! Looks freaking AWESOME!
