With all of the posts and names being thrown around, I hadn't seen your earlier mention of Dooley. It does seem strange that he is not getting some attention for bigger jobs. The only thing that I've seen was a post on a LaTech board from a couple weeks ago concerned about losing him to Auburn.
The dual role really should not be a stumbling block. Even ADs at elite schools don't come close to getting paid what coaches do. Maybe Jamie can't figure out who to call. Do you call Dooley asking for permission to talk to Dooley?
We say this, but at the same time blast the idea of Loney who would stick around way longer.
Why would you ever settle on someone just because they may stay around longer... Thats ambitious...
It would never work due to egos but wouldn’t it be great if we got Charlie Strong as our head coach and DMac as our D-Coordinator.
Yeah, hence the silly face after that. In all seriousness, Dan loves ISU. I am friends of his good friends. He may not like Pollard, but he has nothing but love for us as a University and fans. I'm sure that Strong knows that all too well.
I would also prefer someone who has been a HC but that said this guy would be a great hire. He does have experience coaching at a school like SC and has been a successful recruiter. A bonus is that we would be hiring only the third African-American HC in BCS. That should get us some very positive publicity on a national scale. Maybe even a comment from Sir Charles. It also could be a deciding factor for some really good recruits and our current players who are on the fence at this time. And JP is in Atlanta, a short drive from Gainesville.
It would be a good hire for more reasons than just his resume.
I think head coaching experence is a bit overrated. I am sure the next coach isnt going to hire his friends as OC and DC. He also should be smart enough to keep a few of Chizik's asst coaches on. Ties to the state of FL doesnt hurt either.

Ya I was a big fan of Charlie Strong in the first place... I got caught up in the Gill Hype for a bit mainly because of his head coaching experience. I think Strong will be a much better recruiter than Gill. Some are a little skeptical because of how bad jizzlik did here coming up from the d coordinator postion. My thoughts are that a lot of really good coaches have come up from that postion too. I hope JP was in Hotlanta sealing the deal with him today... UCF wants him really bad so hopefully that doesnt screw with any chance we have of getting him.
Anyone that can stop or at least slow the League's spread offenses would be great. I think he is almost the same age as Gill.
The more I read about Charlie, the more I like him as well. There are about 6 or 7 names that are being thrown around that I really like.
