1. Alford really will get top 5 talent to UCLA judging by what he was able to get to New Mexico.

2. How weird is it a coach who was forced out at Iowa eventually is named a UCLA head coach? It's no more weird than if McDermott is the next UNC or Duke head coach. It's actually more weird than McD getting a blueblood HC job because Creighton played to seed in the tournament.

Well best of luck to New Mexico without him, seems like a place that really supports basketball.

Even when he came there I was shocked they were already putting a ton of fans in the seats...I think it's essentially the main show in the state for sports. Wouldn't be surprised if a Butler thing happens where the next New Mexico coach storms the nation and Alford does a Lick.

Yeah, before alfy I only knew about them from occasional games showing the pit. Only drove through NM once on the way to our first Insight Bowl, definitely looked like the only game in town to me, haha.

This is great! Stevie and his large ego in LA. Stevie, who couldn't handle Iowa, at UCLA.

How could UCLA be this desparate? I mean, jesus.

I guess he's got the hair for it.

I will be shocked if Alford can handle the pressure at UCLA.

Alford was forced out for a multitude of legitimate reasons. Didn't win in the tourney. Coddled a rapist, which included covering up an incident in Pierce's high school career; the team had to have someone stay with him on the weekends to help prevent what happened from happening (he was the guy who would troll around in his car looking for the drunkest girl he could find, from what I've been told).

The handling of Pierce divided the fanbase. His coaching failures and arrogance took care of the rest.

My initial reaction is the Nelson Muntz laugh. Good fit for him though LA won't even notice His douchiness, they'll think he is one of there own.

Exactly, that guy getting what's probably a top four job in college basketball is insanely weird. More weird than Greg McDermott being the next Duke coach because at least he didn't have the personal and moral issues Alford did. Most strange hire I can ever remember.

They'd have been much better off just getting an NBA coach who had been fired. Brilliant coaches get fired every year in the NBA, a team was dumb enough to push out Doc Rivers.

That guy always lands on his feet. This job is high profile, this job is what he has been looking toward since he started coaching. It could actually work out well for him, he will have his pick of blue chippers. If however he backs out a couple first round turds as he is fully capable of doing......he won't last very long.
