As someone who was "in the know" with that class, this is a fact. DRob made a huge impact on the Chicago guys in that class, even though we were THT's second choice.

The head coach is involved in all recruitments, but it's the assistants who do the main work.

Of course assistants do the main work. That isn't something Prohm invented. Matt A. had a huge impact on recruiting under Fred. But when someone has the nerve to mention Steve's good years the rebuttal isn't "oh yeah....with Matt's recruits" is it? It is always "Fred's recruits".

That’s all nice and everything but the point was/is Prohm doesn’t have Chicago connections. Robinson has the connections. It’s so hard for people to stay on point.

I do believe that Prohm was more involved in recruiting than most head coaches. TJ is doing the same if not more. DRob was the main guy in Chicago, but Prohm was right in there with him. Hoiberg and LE on the other hand didn't recruit much until recruits were on campus. Just my opinion.

Hoiberg was rather active in at least Georges and Thomas. White was him and Abdelmassih. Probably the two biggest recruits in terms of that run. It’s too bad we only got that version of Fred for a couple years.

Then he was also responsible for the failures that led to a 2 and 22 record after the ### show the year before. What would our record have been with Prohm in 21-22?

The death spiral he had the program in, <5 wins.
I was never so glad to not have tickets as I was in the Covid yr, I couldn't have handled it I would have been leaning over the balcony railing yelling at Prohm for destroying a program.

Yes, this proves that the head coach never had any involvement with any other recruits. Prohm probably never even talked to a lot of them until they got to Ames. View attachment 97454

C'mon, man. The guy you responded to literally posted an article talking about Prohm's relationship with Griffin being a big factor and has the quote "Coach (Prohm) has been recruiting me hard from the first day." Do you really think a head basketball coach doesn't have major involvement with the recruitment of every single player that signs? This isn't football where hundreds of offers go out.

I get dissatisfaction with Prohm. He was a bad coach and ran things into the ground. Let it go.
So much hatred that people cannot give him credit. He recruited 3 current nba guys, two of which, THT and Haliburton, have a shot at being the 2 best nba clones ever. THT just dropped 40 points. Haliburton is unreal good.
If they had stayed Prohm might still be our coach.

One of Prohm’s greatest feats was losing 42 games over 2 years and only missing the NCAA Tournament once. He even equaled Coach K’s NCAA appearances during that period.

If he would have followed that TH/THT class with another good one, he'd still be coaching here. You just can't sign one really good class and then coast for a few years with role players. Those really good players are going to declare as soon as they possibly can. Prohm really struggled with that. You really need to have a plan on what you're going to do if any player leaves after the season. To me, it was pretty obvious that THT was likely gone after that Maui tournament.

I have actually said exactly what you wrote.
It’s hard to recruit one and done guys because you must do it every year. We failed to do that - probably not our MO.
I guess I failed to make my point. I am not defending Prohm. Glad he is gone.
I find it interesting that even the few things he did right (Haliburton and THT) people on this board - with zero knowledge- have to discredit that by saying he had nothing to do with it. My point is - haters gonna hate.

How is it interesting? Horrible coaches are going to be hated at this level.

I agree. He needed to follow up that class with another at least nearly as good. And he didn't and that pretty much got him fired. DRob was rolling in Chicago and ISU just took a good (but not McDAA) player and made him a one and done. We should have been right back in Chicago the next year.

It's borderline impossible to get an at large from the OVC.

Moving to the Valley is going to give them a little bit more margin for error and legitimate chances at getting in without winning the league tournament.

They Valley has put more than 1 team in the tourney only once in the last 6 seasons, the same as the OVC.
