I know Pollard is just trying to bring in needed cash. Game day experience is brutal with all the donor sections, sponsorships, and advertising everywhere.

Not exactly sure.
Find a way to sell the band seats that they have now. Adjust the seating so the band gets a the back chunk of seats of the section right next to the students or put them in the middle of the students and give the students some of the section besides them. Would piece them together.

With our new media deal we can afford to take few measures to pump more excitement into the game.

If that means pushing out a few lower dollar donors I believe the endgame will play out.

More energy even in losses = more fun.
More fun = more ticket demand.
More ticket demand = more ability to raise prices or donor levels.

The current student corner can always be cheaper seats to introduce new fans to the party.

I am sure the folks who liked that corner would be happy to move back.

The students need to go NW opposite of their old section, visitors and the displaced ticket holders from this move can go back to SE corner, and people in NW corner can move across to old student section. The bad part is I think people in NW part of the stadium are some of the best fans in the place. It fills up, they are there after half, and tend to stay later. They probably prefer not looking into sun. But they might be willing to help reunite the students and band. It would make the east side look way better after half when the fat cats at midfield are out drinking for most of the third quarter.

I am not too familiar with the band procedures but I think there are reasons they need to stay where they are. They built up that area for them. I suspect they use some of the facilities behind them for storing things they use. If you can’t move the band you have to move the students back to them.

I will add that my husband has some weird plan for some underground tunnel by the visitors bench when we win the Powerball that would allow the students to go back to their old section.

I've heard it many times, including yesterday right after I Won't Back Down (another stinker) at the 3rd-4th quarter break. You could count on both hands the number of people who visibly reacted to either song. It's embarrassing.

I'm serious that the ONLY thing that is any good is Juicy Wiggle. Nothing else adds anything at all to the game experience.
I've never understood why they play "I Won't Back Down" - other than the title words.

Wonder what kind of reaction "South Side" would get from the crowd?

The problem with putting students in the NW corner is that you basically have to change the west gate into a student entrance, and that would cause swarms of (drunk, unruly) students to cross through the south lots to get to the gate. Those south lots are the biggest money donors; they don’t want their catered tailgates interrupted by students.

You can’t keep the student entrance at the east gate and move them to the west side. People will get hurt during the initial stampede to get prime seats.

Doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea because the NW corner is clearly the best place in the stadium to put the student section. The other alternative would be to move the band into the stands next to the students in the SE corner and then change the NEZ into another high dollar suite area.

They started playing it when Tom Petty died and just kept it.

VERY ANNOYING

I HATE the alumni bad experience. 1.) they usually sound terrible and 2.) they sit in the front of our section and they are in and out all game long, especially in the second half. Do other schools do this?

Back in the stone ages of the 1970’s and 1980’s when I was a student, I think the student section was SW corner of original stadium? There was nothing built in the west side, and when we walked from Towers, there was a big hill you ran up on the west side. I think there was maybe some kind of fence they opened at the bottom of the hill and students who ran up the hill fastest would get the best seats.

I think the west entrance now is a very limited entrance for people like visiting players’ families (hence the problem for TJ Hockenson grandpa) and people in the suites. They could maybe do something there but the access to the area is much more limited by facility enhancements and very rich people with parking over there would be quite unhappy about a line of students eyeing their tailgates. They also seem to park the ambulance up there.

Yeah they would need to push out some more space on the west side to make this work.

It’s just a lot easier to keep the student entrance at the east gate. In my opinion, that means you gotta keep the student section on the east side.

All else being equal, the SE corner is probably better than the NE given the field storming issues with the visiting team trying to leave.

So if I was in charge, I would push the students a little closer to midfield but still in the SE corner, put the band in the corner, behind the students, and renovate the NEZ into some nice seats that I would give first dibs to for whichever season ticket holders on the east side got displaced by me moving the students to a more prime spot there.

The students are staying where they are so save your energy. I would love to see them move the band closer to the students, but not sure how unless they take the front x rows from the students which would also suck. The crowd is all of our problem. Why is it that we only cheer on 3rd downs? Multiple times this year we had a team pinned inside their 5 and the crowd waits until 3rd down. We have a very over-rated crowd IMO.

I'm just happy we are getting more then 50,000 to show up. Remember in Matt's 2nd or 3rd year when things were turning around and we kept saying "Please show up. Pack the Jack." It's very nice to see getting close to 60K for most games.
The crowd vibe still needs to evolve though, so I understand what all of you are saying.

What kills me is when they don’t get a first down but are going for it on fourth and the crowd does nothing if not told to by announcer

I think the AD should scrap the entire game day experience and start over. Seems like every break in play is another commercial. Stadium is pretty much dead outside of Juicy Wiggle which is the only authentically ISU thing that we do. (Jump Around? Seriously?).

Gotta take a hard look at this and start over
