Sturtz was the best player on the floor last night vs. Oskaloosa. He absolutely took over the game in the second half. Xavier Foster (as a soph.) may have been third behind Sturtz and Cole Henry. I am not sure that he will translate to a Power 5 school, but he is the type of kid that will end up at a school like UNI or Drake. He will continue to develop and in a few years we will all wonder why we don't recruit instate kids like that.
Perhaps. If after a few years he develops into a good Big 12 starter he would maybe be a miss, but if it takes a few years to be just a Big 12 role player I don’t think (hope) we’ll have regret. That would be a steep price to pay for a guard. Now, watch him go elsewhere and grow 3 inches.

I wonder if he would have been a senior last year if we would have given him a try, similar to Ernst.

He's 6'4" and plays 1 or 2 on a 3A team in Iowa. He's very thin, but tough. Played QB on their fb team is was easily the bet player on the team. There are plenty of players who get missed by the majors- doesn't take long to see that- look at the NCAA tourney or NBA rosters for small school guys performing. I would recommend watching him a few times and then evaluate. Teams try to stop him and they can't- he scored 44 out his teams 53 pts with Osky having 6'9" and 6'10" inside. He ate up McCaffrey in the state tourney last year.
You don't have to agree, I'm throwing stats and facts out. He will be very good for someone.
Is there a single video of him playing on the AAU circuit? I'm interested because the only thing I've seen of him is on hudl.

Yeah, I'm not going to question Steve Prohm's ability to scout point guards.

He’s one of the best and I’m not suggesting we offer the kid.

But recruiting is guesswork resource allocation, and even he’ll have situations like Wright. Of course, this guy makes Wright look like Harrison Barnes in terms of recruiting, but it’s possible this kid is a hidden P5 player.

Yes, but wait until his next coach starts to develop that McCaffrey kid. Then he can get eaten up by even more players.

Kid is a volume shooter, in 6 games:
12/20, 12/27, 10/19, 7/15, 11/24, 17/34

Volume shooters often struggle on teams with four other quality players.

As for eating up McCaffrey at state last year - He scored 20, McCaffrey scored 18. He wasn't even the top scorer on the team in that game.

And he's only made 9 3-pointers through 6 games while shooting 32%. That's not going to get it done in the Big12, and he's not quick enough to take people off the dribble like he is doing now.

You will wonder that. I will not. This staff has an eye for talent and even if he turns out being an All American(he won't) I will know the staff had him lower on their list

I remember one of ISU's all-tine greats (Naz) not being a good shooter early in his career, it's called development. I'm not saying that he's the greatest, just that it would good to see him at ISU. Some are trying hard to prove he isn't good.

And I remember one of ISU's all-time greats (Georges) not being about to play at the next level. I'm not saying Sturtz is garbage. He's a very good high school player. But he doesn't deserve a scholarship offer to Iowa State.

That’s to be expected. That’s the default and the burden is to “prove” a recruit is a good Big 12 player. There are likely a handful of in-state guys each year that we don’t offer that would be an asset to the team at some point, but that’s usually not worth the storage cost.

Naz was physically superior to this kid, and even Naz beat the odds imo.

I hope Sturtz has a lot of success in college, and it would be great if that happened after walking on at ISU.

It's not about being good, its about not being better than Haliburton, THT, Griffin or Conditt. Would you rather have Sturtz than any of those guys?

No it's just obvious he isn't somebody we should be offering. We're doing just fine when it comes to recruiting and aren't in a position to have to take chances on a kid like this. If we start recruiting like Iowa we'll most likely see similar results on the court. I don't know about you but I definitely don't want that.

Nope, I'd rather have those guys. This has nothing to do with our current recruits, players, or anyone except him. I think he will be a good player. He is talented, under the radar and will be good to see him succeed. It obviously won't be at ISU and that's just fine. end
