Both Hunter and Lipsey are, in my opinion, high level playmakers that individually can break a defense. They are both also great passers and great decision makers.

If both become great shooters, we will have a very, very good duo.

It is going to take some work for Lipsey to get onto Hunter's level. I see him as someone who can hopefully develop and take over PG as an upperclassman.

Naz and Matt weren’t ISU legends Naz and Matt right away. Even Ejim was super raw, he just got a lot of stats because he played hard and that first team was low on talent.

Monte and Georges kind of arrived ready to crush it in their rolls of floor general and offensive closer.

Tamin is going to be a guy that EVERY conference opponant will hate from his sophomore year onward. By the time he is a senior. They will be commenting that he's been a thorn in their side for 5+ seasons or he's been there forever.

Aaron Craft is who a lot of people comp him too. I think his ceiling is Tony Parker. He's not a shooter.. But if he ever shot 35%+ from deep.. You are talking about Devion Mitchell good. He's going to wreck havoc in the paint and on defense. I'd encourage everyone to get to some Ames High games this winter and watch him dominate

Naz barely played as a freshman. He was a bench gunner as a sophomore. He turned into a high-level B12 starter as an upperclassman, and I believe he was 2nd team all-B12 his last year.

Matt played as a freshman but wasn't particularly effective. Sophomore year was similar, but he did come on late that season. Junior and senior Iceman was one of the best 3&D SGs in school history.

So there's two guys who did not hit the "can carry a team/start in the B12" level until their third seasons.

Monté wasn't a starter until halfway through his freshman year, and even if he handled the ball frequently, he was still sharing PG duties with Kane (and Georges) and was no more than the fourth option on offense. Heck, he was usually the fifth option on the floor after Ejim/Kane/Niang/Hogue that season.

Sophomore year and after, yeah, he became the Point God.

Georges is a similar story. Didn't start until halfway through his freshman year, and while he was quickly a focal point of the offense, there were still plenty of guys around him who were equally as important as a high-usage guy, especially Will Clyburn. Sophomore year is when he really erupted on his own.

So two guys who needed two years of seasoning to carry a team and two guys who needed at least a half a season if not a full season. I am looking forward to Lipsey and Hunter, too, but even at their rankings they are going to need 1-2 seasons to be able to play 30+ minutes on a competitive B12 team.

I think we'll all be patient for that, though. Or at least I hope.

I can't remember a time thinking we were not better with Monte Morris on the floor, I mean not one minute.

He got better but he was easily an above average Big 12 player the minute he stepped on the floor.

One game is way too early to tell where we categorize Hunter.

The freshman version of Monté was a complementary piece but nothing more. He really was playing fifth-violin to the upperclassmen on that roster. He was still good, but not good enough to carry a team on his own. Come his sophomore year and beyond, though, and he was an excellent PG.

I think this chart kind of proves that point. He was okay as a freshman (though he really turned it on in the last few games in KC and in the NCAA tournament). Then he was just great all the time as a sophomore, junior, and senior, with the exception of his junior year. He hurt his shoulder, and while the program was quiet about it, it was pretty clear he was not exactly himself the last one-third of that season.

If you can't get to Ames you can use your ESPN+ Subscription to watch him play against Christian Brothers College High School on 12/11 in Columbia MO.

Ejim could rebound early, just became automatic on his jumpshot later in his career and then added the three ball the last 1+ year.

Young Ejim had bad hands and did a lot of ohdeargodno things like miss layups and dunks. I used to call him MELLLL-VIIIIIN Ejim (like ALLLLL-VIIIIIN from the Chipmunks), because he would ALMOST make amazing plays but couldn't quite finish.

But even then, you could see how good he could be once the game slowed down for him. Then it did, and he was! And then he learned to shoot on top of that! Man, those were great players and great teams.

This is awesome. We need some size now. I’m not necessarily talking about 6’10”, 6’11”, 7’ necessarily. I’m talking 6’8”/6’9” bruisers who play above the rim.

Is that so hard? :D

I don’t think we need 6’11 either, I would be more than happy with long 6’8 or 6’9 that can guard 3-4 positions effectively, block shots and board. I’ll take all the larger Dustin Hogues I can find.
