IMO Duke, Kentucky, and Virginia would be really bad match ups for us. Outside of those 3 teams we would have a chance against anybody.

Clearly the few elite teams.

I hope to avoid those unheralded teams from a smaller conference or overshadowed P5 teams that are effective at utilizing their guards on screen action and that rebound well. That probably describes a lot of teams, particularly past the first round. Still a few weeks to get those areas cleaned up.

I'd be glad for the selection committee to keep us far away from the potential storyline draw of ISU-Murray St matching up somewhere in the bracket. Murray St puts up some legitimate points, and Morant is an assist and scoring machine.
I wouldn't want to face them either, but the selection committee won't see any story line there. Outside of Ames and wherever Murray St is, few make the connection.

We are nearing the end of the regular season here and all prognostications here have Iowa State as a 4 or 5 seed. I could potentially see us rise to a 3 seed if we get hot down the stretch and potentially fall to a 6 seed if we stumble.

Put me in the camp of wanting to avoid Wisconsin in the tournament in a potential 4/5 second round game. They play so slow and Happ in the paint could spell trouble for us.

Outside of the obvious teams, Houston is a team I'd prefer to avoid. They play good defense

LSU, that PG would drive at will.
Nevada is Baylor with more talent\
Auburn seems like they are really underachieving

Lipscomb they come from a good league, same one as Florida Gulf Coast and Northern Florida.. Would be a tough out.

Want to play

Iowa State is due for the year where they over perform and go farther than expected. I mean, has it ever happened? Usually they make it about as far as expected or not quite as far. That's going to involve beating some good teams.

Iowa State has advanced beyond seeding several times, but so far, hasn’t gone beyond that.
1986: R32 (7) ISU over (2) Michigan — lost to (3) N.C. State
1992: R64: (10) ISU over (7) UNC-Charlotte (now Charlotte) — lost to (2) Kentucky
1997: R32: (6) ISU over (3) Cincinnati — lost to (2) UCLA
2005: R64: (9) ISU over (8) Minnesota — lost to (1) North Carolina
2013: R64: (10) ISU over (7) Notre Dame — lost to (2) Ohio State

Virginia, Wisconsin, Kentucky seems pretty strong.

Without Young, we wouldn't have much power to contain Zion, Duke would probably be a tricky match up.

I could live with Gonzaga in our region.
no way Young would guard Zion even if Young was healthy

Would be a nightmare to have our season end to them. We would hear about it for years.

Funny thing is it happened in 2003. In Ames, in the NIT.

I think that's the last time they won in Hilton.
