Pretty sure everyone thought that about OU 2017, too. I know I did.
Ironically I was in the minority but I felt better because I trusted the QB situation. Not because I thought Kempt would play as well as he did - but that was how little faith or trust I had in Park on the football field. Hoped for the best for the young man off the field and hoped for his success on the field but I was never on the hype train for Park and thought that even though he was talented it might have been addition by subtraction

Well at least the game is at 11am, the crowd will be quiet.
Another week with running back problems.
Brock hurt, Norton hurt, Silas not an everydown back, Sanders I'm not even sure whats going on there.
Not a single receiver can we "throw it up to" like we had with Lazard, Butler, Kolar.
Expect pain.

Bingo! We also trusted them to make plays, and took shots down the field. ISU had nothing to lose, so they played to win.

This staff doesn't seem to do that anymore.
This might be the first time we are back to this, since 2017. Last year definitely felt like playing not to lose.

Cautiously optimistic that the special teams is coming around with the young kicker and punter. If they play similar to the KSU game I think we cover. If not, I predict pain.

It will be something like this (or worse).

Ewers is the real deal and will likely be the number 1 pick, 3 at worst, when he comes out. He can make the easy throws and he can make the insanely difficult throws. Our base defense is predicated on keeping the ball in front, making quick tackles, and creating TOs when the DL gets pressure. It has consistently struggled to contain teams/QBs that protect well and can throw the ball. In many of our losses the last several years, QBs routinely had several seconds in the pocket, allowing the receivers to exploit the soft spots in the zone. Literally became a game of pitch and catch.

Ewers is leaps and bounds better than any QB we've faced thus far, and I think he throws for 350 yards plus. I also expect them to target TJ Tampa, who is having an abysmal year in coverage and making open-field tackles. As for the offense, I haven't seen anything to make me think they are willing or even capable of making necessary adjustments. The offensive struggles continue, Ewers shines, and this game gets ugly quick.

Barring Ewers getting hurt, I think we have zero chance to win this game. I'm just hopeful the offense makes some necessary adjustments, the defense makes some plays, and we keep this game competitive. I'd take that moral victory.

I agree with Ewers being a legit QB - has the right touch at every level and sees the field incredibly well. I also think something going against us in this game is we're slow on defense and thus far we've only had to plan for a good passing team or a good rushing team - none of our opponents thus far have been multidimensional. Texas is absolutely that between Ewers and Bijan.

We're going to have to play off the receivers a bit to get adequate coverage downfield but that's going to put our second and third level defense further away from the line where Bijan does his dirty work. That's going to put us into a new challenge for the year.

I think we can slow them as well as any in the league, I just don't think we can then keep up with them. If our defense spends all day on the field, we're going to wear down. I wouldn't be surprised at any score in this one in Texas's favor, unfortunately.

My hope is that we see a lot of progress and changes on offense to give some hope for the rest of the year. If we come out flat, make the same mistakes, try the same plays over and over, it's really going to be a long fall.

Over under on combined missed tackles and blown coverages from TJ Tampa? Five....six....?

I think he is going to get absolutely abused on Saturday.

We are either going to try something completely new, and different, on offense and win.

Or we are going to get blown out. Especially if we don't pressure Ewers early.

At this point in the season, if CMC tries to just play Iowa style football, AGAIN, against a heavily favored and talented opponent, on the road, I really don't know what to tell you people. If that won't wake you up, nothing will.

Once again, I hope to be surprised.

Sadly, I think we are in for more arrogance and hubris
We'd like to see something (anything) different on offense that lasts more than one play that actually tends to be successful and isn't attempted again.

I agree, if we see the same five play default offense for 90 percent of the drives the maximum scored is 10 points with 3-6 points being much more likely. This estimate is based on attempting that one play that works really well gaining 30-50 yards then going back to the 5-play default for the remainder of the game. It may produce a few fields goals, even a remarkable TD, but will lead to a final of 31-10 or 35-6.

We have a great defense. What kind of miracles are we planning for from them if they are out there for three quarters of game time? We are looking for 7-8 turnovers by Texas and a win with a final score of 9-7 or 6-3.

It would be great to see something different attempted and an inspired game plan with adjustments ready as Texas adapts to it. That would lead to that surprising 38-31 or 45-28 victory.

I'd love to be horribly wrong about these predictions and I hope I am.

Brock simply is not going to be 100%, probably till the rest of the year.
I think Norton was getting healthy but then got hurt again, hope thats a bad assumption on my part that his hamstring didnt get re-aggravated and maybe it was something else minor.

Remsburg is back, appeared to play last week, but others on the line, I wont say any names have simply not been good enough.

The wide receivers, I mean we went through this with media leadership, hyping West, now hyping Noel, I am just not seeing what we are supposed to be seeing because I dont see any tackles being broken, and the frames are too small for possession receptions.
Stanley either needs to go deep or put Shaw in for the short stuff. Is this all we have? It might be all we have that can consistenly do what they are asked of in practice.

We need long drives all day to have a chance. One 3 and out and its over. If Norton isnt 100% healthy forget it. If we the try the same possession game with Stanley and Noel forget it.

Surprised how many expecting TX to put up over 30 on us. I don't see it. And I'm going to say the pressure finally comes off Campbell and coaches and team and we pull out a victory. Bye coming. Teams lays it all out there.
Best QB and RB in the conference, not to mention best athletes in general. I predict UT winning 28-20 though, so I am just playing devils advocate for those that think Texas lights up the scoreboard.

On boat racing 'Bama with Ewers? That's a real stretch.

And their D has given up over 100 yds rushing to everyone so far except WV (61), and La Monroe (92).
There is almost 0% chance that we rush for 100+ on Saturday. I would handicap it at 55.5

Baylor put up 31.

KSU and KU do not have the athlete's UT does.

Doesn't mean they will put up over 30..........but the guns are there to do it. And if our defense comes out slow like they do every now and then.....I can see this snowball real fast.

And why wouldn't they be "laying it all out there" every conference game?
