The money?????????????

I agree with you Tim. What is frustrating is the offense has been moving the ball well but not scoring. That PP was huge because we get the ball back in a 16-14 game right before half time and have a chance to drive the field and take a lead. They wound up scoring on the drive instead and the momentum took a big swing from there. I'm not saying we win that game but I like our chances better had we not had the careless penalty.

Trav and frontrangeclone-

I'm pretty sure the score was 23-14 Texas had scored one more time than you guys remember. We then had stopped them on the 3rd and long but the penalty kept the drive alive and they went all the way. If we had stopped them and then scored a touchdown we still would have been down by two points, which is world's better than the real 30-14 halftime score.

We need to beat some ranked teams to move on up.

I agree that we need to beat more ranked teams, but I think the problem is not losing to the bad teams. Like Baylor, Kansas, Missouri. Remember, we beat #8 Iowa and #23(?) Colorado last year.

how does everyone see the rest of our schedule? I feel confident we will beat UNI but i am worried about Nebraska. I haven't looked much farther than that.

5 bowls since 2000 is tied for 4th most in the conference. Granted, the bowls have been 2nd-tier bowls, but at least we have reached a level of consistency that 8 other teams in the conference don't have.
But, other than that Independence Bowl, which gets the seventh best Big 12 team, these bowls didn't exist. When 60 plus teams get a bowl bid that isn't that big of a deal.
I like Dan (yes ISU I do like Dan), I just wish that he could communicate in another way than coach speak when he is on the radio/tv. I give him credit for his work, but he has had more help than any coach before him, and he HASN'T WON enough.
The simple fact of the matter is that he won 9 games in 2000, and probably should have left at that point. The opportunities had to abound, right??? Well I certainly don't remember any schools making overtures toward him, if there were schools, please refresh my memory. He himself linked himself to TCU, and they said no publicly.
So what is the deal there. I have always wondered as to why, with all of the things working against him, why he would stay here. I mean he takes EVERY OPPORTUNITY HE CAN TO TALK ABOUT HOW BAD THE JOB WAS/IS when he got here.
This is where we all seem to disagree, I say he gets outcoached on a regular basis. The players make silly mistakes, and they are SLOPPY fundementally, another indictment of the coaching staff. I guess I don't see what is going to change if all of a sudden, we have all the money in the world to do what we want with.
I mean all of a sudden, are we going to be fundementally sound, will Dan quit losing games that he should win, due to brutal coaching decisions (take the air out of the ball in the second half, cover two, with HUGE seams, and no pass rush)???

Let me get this straight...

We hammer D-Mac for his over-all losing record, which includes the losses when he just took over the program and was sifting through the mess.

Yet we won't give full credit for certain wins over Iowa, Nebraska and Texas A&M?

Seems a bit hypocritical to me...

No ISU, I am not holding his first 3 years against him, however, he did go 1-10 in his third year, with 3 years of recruiting.
It isn't that he loses games, that is what I think you are having the toughest time understanding as to what I am saying, it's HOW he loses games.
It is all of the missed opportunities that he has had to get that breakthrough victory, has been in control of the games, and decided to stop being aggressive, and let the other team get the momentum, and beat us.
He has been here a LONG time, we all know that, and Rome wasn't built in a day, but beating big names who are having lousy seasons doesn't constitute big wins. It's a case of them sinking temporarily to our level.
I mean you yourself said that Iowa had a superior coaching staff, and coached that game much better than this staff did. IF THAT HAPPENS ONCE IT'S TOO DAMN MANY TIMES.

Wow, you are just not that bright Jeff, are you?

Iowa still went to a New Year's Day bowl game. They came into our game ranked #8. Now I know you are going to say that it doesn't matter what they were ranked at the time because that helps you argument (or lack thereof) but in reality it does matter.

2005 Iowa (the were ranked coming into Ames remember?)
2004 Nebraska (they were ranked coming into Ames remember?)
2005 Colorado (they were ranked coming into Ames)
2002 at Iowa
2002 Florida State (well we didn't win it but we don't need to bring that whole thing up again)

There are a few just in the last couple years.

And we have chances against Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech this year still.

Next Question.

OK Iowa was ranked, but I read a lot of posts on this and other websites about how Iowa was SO OVERRATED, and they weren't that good, and as i watched Tate kill us this year, I wondered if we could have stopped him last year.
2004 NEBRASKA WENT 5-6 AND BROKE THE LONGEST CONSECUTIVE BOWL STREAK IN THE NCAA-THEY WERE BAD. SO PLEASE DO NOT BRING THAT GAME UP AGAIN.
Colorado actually did us a favor by taking that 70-3 *** whoopin' from Vince Young, but they finished quite weakly, but did you really think that they were better than us. Being ranked means very little (ASK THE 2002 TEAM)
2002 Iowa looked a lot better later in the year than at the time, but I will give you that one:wink0st:
The final score did say that Florida State won, and at best we would have gone to OT, so winning that game was up in the air.
So you know what you are right, Dan, with his 2-46 record against over .500 teams, has won ONE game in TWELVE years that he shouldn't have.
Boy you really told me there fella.

I like Dan (yes ISU I do like Dan)

You should get a t-shirt that says that. How about:

My Name is Darts180, and...
I Like Dan (yes ISU, I do like Dan)

A gold t-shirt with blue and Cardinal lettering. And on the back it could say:

So get out of my face

And Darts, before you go off thinking I'm just ragging on you, keep in mind that positive Karma ya got the other day. And you're welcome.

Thank you CJohn, I LOVE Iowa State sports, and just want to see them be as successful as they can. And I do think that we live under a cloud as another thread stated.
I can agree to disagree with people, but I just wish that so many of my fellow Cyclone fans wouldn't go into that bunker mentality when you are critical of DM.

Sorry fella, but I was wrong. I meant 2002 Nebraska where they came in ranked.

Ok, you don't want to count wins against teams who were better than us or ranked when we played them but didn't finish the season ranked. (Ie. Colorado, Nebraska). BUT we also can't count wins against teams who we beat that weren't as good when we played them but finished better than us?? Makes sense...I love comparing apples to kiwis as well.

I don't doubt you love Iowa State athletics, I just think you will use any AND EVERY opportunity to talk about how bad Mac is. That includes times where the topic/posts/conversations aren't even about him...

McCarney has done more for our program with less money a harder place to recruit than any other coach in the Big 12.

I tried to change the subject of the thread, but it is back to complaining about the coach sucks/the coach is awesome.
