WVU doesn't understand that this is Texas's conference.

I read this quite a bit on various boards. From the pov of ISU, what do you all mean when you say it's "Texas' conference". Being a Texas alumnus, I wish it were "Texas' conference," but I don't see it that way. Obviously many disagree? Elaboration appreciated. Thanks.

So what would Luck recommend the Big 12 do?

"My message to my fellow ADs -- and I’m the new kid on the block, so I haven’t really said too much -- but I said to the group that I think the Big East was complacent by remaining at eight (teams)," he said, "and that doesn’t really give you much room for error if somebody does want to pick up and leave, as happened with Pitt and Syracuse."

West Virginia AD Oliver Luck Says Big 12 Should Look To Expand - Big East Coast Bias

Luck must have missed the memo on where the B12 is on verge of extending their Tier 1 contract with ESPN with all schools granting their rights for up to 13 years so nobody is going to pick up and leave. The Big East had completely different dynamics going on with Notre Dame and the other private non-FB schools so his comparison of the BE to the B12 is not a valid one. Unless Florida State or Notre Dame are added as full members, the B12 is best off staying at 10.

Texas' $15M/yr bonus payment from ESPN in the form of LHN essentially saved the B12 and ISU should be thankful for that. The thin-skinned, overly sensitive types from Aggy and Mizzou were too stupid to understand that and foolishly bailed out. Texas provides, by far, the most value to the B12's TV contract and ISU benefits from that so I don't have a problem if sensitive types from ISU call the B12 "Texas' Conference". Texas still gets one vote on conference matters like the other schools get.

The narrative was that schools didn't want to be in the same conference with the biggest AD in the country in UT.

Basically, the ones that left the conference, except for OU, set up the very deal that they "claimed" was what was causing the conference to dissolve.

ESPN went after UT hard, because it made sense to get that brand on the disney networks. They would do it with the other big boys too, but UT came available first.

So, the frightened and scared lying pieces of **** that are eATMe, and nebbie, spent most of their moves, trying to p.r. their way to not being held responsible for changing the landscape of college football. In nebbie's case, they created the entire system that they claimed was harmful. But it only became harmful, when UT shot past them with no chance of them ever catching up.

aggy, well, they are just insecure little people that know that they aren't and never will be UT. They thought that moving to the SEC was going to somehow make them relevant. The problem is that they will be in the West, and get mason jarred by LSU, bama, Auburn, Arkansas, etc.

Basically all the really did was open east Texas recruiting to more schools like Mississippi State that they will lose recruits to.

Luck details WVU Big East exit, Big 12 move - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Great interview with West Virginia AD on what all went down in their decision to join the Big 12. He confirms (I know it had been rumored already) in this article that both Missouri and West Virginia were in consideration for the SEC's 14th spot, but Missouri was their first choice and "held all the cards". Once Missouri mad their choice to move, the Big 12 ended up being the easy option for West Virginia and they didn't look back pretty much.

Supposedly Bow-tie is buying out Byrne's contract. Byrne was dead set against going to the SEC--don't think this timing isn't related since TAMU joins the SEC on July 1st. Those leaked emails show Byrne was in Europe while bow-tie was negotiating TAMU to the SEC without his knowledge. Unbelievably dysfunctional university.

A&M president addresses Byrne's future - San Antonio Express-News

Loftin was the catalyst behind the Aggies joining the Southeastern Conference, which officially occurs on July 1. An A&M official said Friday that now is the time for a “natural transition” to a new athletic director because of the move, and that discussions are “amicable” between the parties concerning Byrne's exit.
Byrne couldn't be reached for comment Friday. Last December, an A&M insider said Byrne would not fulfill his contract because of a growing rift between administration and the athletic department.
Byrne's right-hand man, senior associate athletic director Jeff Toole, had been discovered in late November posting what he thought were anonymous disparaging remarks about Loftin on a fan website. Byrne, too, had played a minimal role in the move to the SEC, and had steadfastly stood by then-football coach Mike Sherman all the way up until Sherman's firing by Loftin on Dec. 1.
