If 16 teams are the end game.....I wonder who the hell the Pac12 would be able to add? Talk about being on an island.

It might be for the SEC and possibly Big 10 and Big 12, but PAC 12 is not going to 16 anytime soon. There is nothing magic about 16 that says everyone HAS to do it. Never have all of the major conferences had the exact same number of teams and that is not going to change except in the minds of bloggers and media that like to come up with scenarios.

I think the eyeballs in Hawaii will become part of Pac 12. Hawaii can compete with the Pac 12.

To me, what the Clemson BOT said was as good as saying they are gone.

I think the Big 12 and SEC are working together in this thing, I really do.

End game will be 2 16 team leagues, with semi final round games in conference to determine conference champions, which will meet in the new bowl game. I think there will probably be Big 12 / SEC challenge series in both football and basketball. All of it will lead to huge money for both conferences.

This is going to seem like it's out of nowhere (or maybe not), but.... What's stopping the SEC and the Big 12 from forming a playoff between the two conferences at the end of the season?

Look at this:
-They just formed an agreement to play the 'champions bowl'.
-Between the 2 conferences (assuming Big 12 adds 2-4) you have 26-28 teams over 4 divisions.
-You will already have the 2 division champions playing each other for the conference championship before advancing to the Champions bowl

That has all been done within the current BCS/Bowl structure in place.

-Next step. Add a divisional championship game making the play off 8 teams.

The remaining teams could then do a SEC vs the Big 12 challenge sort of arrangement to facilitate all the teams playing their regular season 12 game quota while having their schedules open in case they are in the divisional championship game.

You will have at that point effectively implemented an 8 team play off from the pool of the strongest two football conferences in the nation with a crown going to the winner of the champions bowl (which will gain more meaning if the BCS ends as it is rumored to be).

I would think the TV revenue for an 8 team SEC/Big 12 playoff plus all the desirable match ups among the bottom 14-16 schools would be enormous.

Consider this potential play off bracket:

West Virginia
Oklahoma State (Or Clemson)

Oklahoma
Texas


Alabama
LSU

Georgia
Florida


Plus late season games between:
Auburn vs Florida State (big names)
Iowa State vs Vanderbilt
TAMU vs Texas Tech (In State rivals)
Baylor vs Ole Miss
South Carolina vs TCU
Miss St vs Kansas State
Mizzou vs Kansas (Border War)
Clemson (or OK St) vs Arkansas (big names)

Kentucky vs Tennessee (outlier unless B12 added to 14 in which case Tennessee vs Notre Dame and Kentucky vs GA Tech)

My response to vmbplayer. I don't think you are far off from what is going to happen. I would guess that what the B12 and SEC are working towards is either 14 or 16 team conferences with 8 game regular seasons, a semi final game between either the top team in 4 team pods or the top two teams in 7 team divisions. (I believe I saw earlier in the monster that the NCAA is already looking into semi final games and how many teams need to be in a conference for that to happen). Everyone else in the conference matched up with a equally ranked team from a different pod/division, for there 9th game.

While I think that is a long shot, you may be onto something. The champions bowl also says cuts out the middle man that the BCS is starting to become. I look for other conferences to start testing the BCS further.

If they think they can make more money, college football will do away with the BCS and form some kind of tournament with predetermined ranking systems, and rules. Highest bidding bowl group gets to sponsor certain matchups, semi-final, final four, championship. It is not that ludicrous for something like this to develop.

ACC bylaws are very unclear on the process for exiting. The entire process is a financial nightmare allegedly. Something about the exit fees needing to be paid 50% in full to an escrow account before any university can begin formal talks with another conference or suffer a contract breach and be liable for damages not covered by the exit fee

This is quite sketchy but if true this is why everything is off the record until things are slam dunk finalized. You sure would not want to be Texas Tech and try this. Thanks im4cyclones.

“If we receive a viable option, a viable proposal presented to us by any league, this board has the responsibility to consider it – and we will consider it,” Wilkins told reporters after the meeting. “Until then, we’re committed to work and we will work to make the ACC the strongest conference possible.”

“We haven’t received (a proposal from the Big 12), and I don’t have any information to lead us to believe that we’ll receive one,” Wilkins said. “But if we do, we’ll consider it.” ​

New Mexico? Otherwise not much. Maybe a school like Tulsa or Houston, but that's a reach too? Not many schools left for them, too bad the B1G isn't in that same position.:twitcy:

Based on those quotes it couldn't be made any more clear....

The problem the Pac12 is facing is that they have very few options as far as teams that they could potentially add that are in the general region of the conference and the few options they do have are either in the Big East or they bring little to no value at all in terms of prestige or tv revenue.

Larry Scott swung and missed on stealing the 4 Big XII south teams and then when they decided to drop the idea of additional expansion they royally screwed up. Now there is nothing left for them that makes any sense competitively, regionally, or financially.

PAC 12 could keep it in-state of CA and add:

SDSU
Fresno St.

Both would improve competitively with more money and would keep more CA recruits in-state.

I hear Idaho is looking for a home...

i don't think with the new contract that would be possible, unless the BIG 12 kicked them out for another school (e.g. Notre Dame).
