What about a texas school? SMU or Houston? Getting into Texas might not be a bad idea.

I personally don't care about the Pac12. Their games are on too late and imo their on-field product in relevant sports over the past four or five years has been second-rate (outside of Oregon).

I would love to see Iowa State get back to landing recruits from Cali though.

I think the Pac 12 would have to look at SDSU,Boise St, Hawaii as the 3 most logical teams and the 4th maybe UNLV, Utep or New Mexico if they want to expand their footprint or Fresno St if thtey want to stay in Cali.

I wonder if the NCAA would change the rules and allow semifinals for conference championships - with the stipulation that conferences must have a minimum number of members (16 or 18). Those extra games would probably help pay for the new members, especially if the new members were classified as 2nd tier with fractional shares.

Teams like SDSU, Boise St, UNLV and Hawaii would probably be just happy to get in and not too worried about their share. It would be a shame if the Pac skipped over these teams and tried to get an east coast pod.

I commented about UNLV on reddit and this was the response given.

UNLV isnt a good market. Las Vegas is an oddity in that the majority of the town are transplants that work and play in odd hours. Its also pretty bad academically, with no research being done, and has a small endowment. Nevada would probably get invited before UNLV too.

This was from a Washington State fan. He commented that Hawaii is probably the school that fits the most PAC12 standards. Also commented that New Mexico could get an invite, but it would probably be either Nevada or New Mexico. Said that PAC would never consider Boise, any more California schools or BYU.

Take it for what it is worth but usually fans of the conferences are more in the know than those that are not.

That makes sense. I also think BYU would make better sense than UNLV or Nevada but with BYU having their own TV deal (i believe) I didn't include them. I also think that if SDSU would get in then they would have to take another Cali team because that was the big issue with them going to 12 was getting everyone to play in Cali every year

The P12 isn't going to expand unless Cal and Stanford change their minds about BYU. Very small chance of that happening. Outside of possibly BYU, there is no other school west of Texas that comes remotely close to adding sufficient TV network value for the P12 to expand. There is no mandate that the P12 has to expand with schools that don't add sufficient value for the existing schools.

I think cykadelic2 hit the proverbial nail on the head. It isn't about expanding geographic footprint (Oklahoma would have done that), rather it is about expanding electronic (think TV) footprint.

I realize the Notre Dame expansion issue has been discussed extensively, but does anyone have inside information on what Jamie Pollard's view of Notre Dame partial membership is? I envision us getting hosed by the bowl selections every year if they join for only non-football sports but are allowed rights to Big 12 bowls. Chip Brown just posted the Texas-perspective that everyone in the Big 12 would be on board for ND partial membership (even without joining fully in 2016), but that just seems like such a BAD idea it really surprises me.

My opinion, we don't need ND. They will need us eventually. That being said, I have no desire to have them join EVER! We already have Tejas still in the dictator role, we don't need another out of this world ego trying to vie for position. FSU and Clem are just fine by me. ND is a thing of the past.

Can't see the Pac-12 presidents wanting Boise in their conference.

Last fall: OMG, is Iowa State gonna be left to join the Mountain West or MAC? We're doomed!

Winter: Whew. Safe for now. TV contract will be nice for ISU.

Late Winter: Hm. Lots of rumors from WVU and Clemson folks saying FSU and Clemson to the Big 12. TV contact would be huge!

Last 2 months: Did you see what the FSU head of Board of Trustees just said? If the Big 12 came knocking we would be foolish not to listen? Holy balls. Now the Clemson BOTs is saying the same thing! OMG, rumors suggest 5-7 teams from the ACC have contacted the Big 12.

Big TV contract. 13 year grant of rights. Odds are in the favor of FSU and probably Clemson joining the Big 12.

The good news is the B12 has had lots of practice posturing and playing the game. They can pass their learning curve onto FSU and Clemson. Mizzou and aTm did show us the process.
