That is a hell of a lot of traveling for Iowa State. I'd almost rather be in the south and play the Big 12 teams. At least there would be some familiarity there. Plus, that map would kill Iowa State's Texas football recruiting.

Why isn't Missouri on there? As a Jayhawk I would hate to lose that rival and they have a lot to offer the conference.

Where they love the governor
He also put OU's star in Purcell and OSU's in Guthrie. I don't think the map was about geographical accuracy down to anything smaller than state level.

There are plenty of mis-placed stars on the map. I don't think it was supposed to be all that specific - just to give everybody a general idea of how this "Project" lays out.

It looks like a better name for the divisions would be "East" and "West", FWIW. Not sure how much I like getting rid of all of our rivals and picking up all new ones. Who will we have Farmageddon with?

That is probably too many schools for UT and ND to share the revenue pie with. Also, should replace BC with UConn.

If UT and ND somehow conspire to form a "new" conference, I don't think it will be more than 8 teams unless a FB championship game makes it more than worthwhile for 12. An 8 team scenario probably would not include ISU, a 12 team scenario might.

Rumors are getting stronger that the SEC's 14th team will be West Virginia.

If ND & UT do this I think they will go with 12 and pick who they want out of the Big East and The Big 12. Those conference schools are in a perfect position for ND & TX to approach. It seems kind of crazy, but the more I think about it the more it looks like something that could actually happen. ND could pick schools they are familiar with like Pitt, BC and others. If they pick 12 it would be plenty strong enough to stand on it's own and would pretty much make it impossible for the 16 team superconferences to form.

Not necessarily. I like the 16 teams Boomer has, but I have always heard that the way to go with 16 teams is 4 4 team pods. Play 9 conference games, everyone in your pod every year, and then 2 teams from the other three pods, for a total of 9 games. Conference champion could be from the best 2 teams overall.

Right now the ACC, Big East, and Big 12 (minus aTm) have 30 teams all together. Why not just get BYU and ND in that group, and start 2 super conferences. Maybe this is what all the ACC/Big East/Big 12 talking together thing is all about?

I hope so as well. The geography just doesn't make that much sense though, IMO. But if you could somehow establish a cross-conference alliance, where we all played multiple OOC games against one another (similar to B12/Pac 10 challenge) in both football and b-ball, maybe you could generate enough interest to get a network devoted to just those 3 conferences.

Then teams like UT, ND and Florida State could still have their own networks additionally.

Because TX and ND don't want to be part of a superconference. They don't want to divide up the pie that much. That's why I wouldn't be surprised to see them attempt form a 12 team conference. The positive about that is if they are successful they will have killed the 4 -16 team superconferences.

If that happened it would be the biggest move in college football history.... literally. Right now Larry Scott, Jim Delaney, and Mike Slive think they have the college football world in their hands. They honestly believe they control it, can get whatever teams they want, etc... If the Big East, ACC, and Big XII could pull off a move like that you have now officially cut off any possibility for further expansion by those 3 power hungry conferences.... well unless they want to start raiding the MAC, C-USA, or another non BCS league for teams. Their plans would be ruined and it would put the 2 super conferences in a very good position for stability. No teams would get left out in the cold, a scenario which would more then likely trigger the government to start getting involved. It is a plan that could actually work.
